Is there a trick to getting the brace to unscrew form the top? If not how does one go about getting underneath the top cap to get to the screws? I have twisted and twisted from the top on all four screws to no avail. Any help would help.

You have to open the panel where the plug goes in. You can then reach in underside and be careful to not drop your wrench or nut from the bolts.pant 2Bob

These are through bolted, and have a 3/8″ aluminum backing plate. The nuts should be 7/16″ also. Its one of those little things that takes a lot and most never notice.

Got them all out except one, and stripped the head. Now what? BCB must have used a impact wrench to put these in. If it wasnt a fiberglass boat I would use the blue tip wrench!!

maybe use a #2 or #3 easyout?

There is no impact used and those are hand tensioned. IF you got erratic with it, then you probably galded the threads and drilling the top head out is your option now. You can replace the screw. You may have to hold the bottom with a wrench if you can not hold the top with vise grips. The blue tip wrench theory makes a real mess of things. BCB

She has the small arms needed to reach all the way to the front. I just went through this today. God Bless my wife her small arms. She put the plate on and got the nuts & washers started and didnt drop anything!! All mine came out with ease. On removing the stripped one, have her hold a wrench (7/16 boxend ) and keep the screw from spinning. Use a bit a little smaller than the stripped cross hairs. Drill deep enough that you know you have past the head. Get a bit a little bigger and go at it again. The head should come loose. Now remove wrench and have her place her hand underneath. Use a small punch and send it through. Be prepared to take wife to dinner and clean bathrooms if needed!! You may need those small arms again someday..Sheff

This whole thing is all my fault, not trying to blame BCB for anything except have a great product that has lasted since 1994. Stock t-motor bracket and screws from 1994 I would say I got my moneys worth. As for the wife thing, got rid of her but kept the boat.
