I am assuming you have an analog gauge and not smartcraft. If so the tach could be faulty, you can verify the voltage on the back of the tach to make sure you are reading around 12.8-13.1 on the tach directly. Another simple fix is to rotate the little wheel on the back of the tach with a screwdriver, jsut make sure you set the wheel back to its original position. I would rotate about a half turn to the right and left then set it back in the center where it was originally.

Would (or should )the overrev alarm beep if I exceeded the 6100 max rpms (2002 250 XB )I was running down river the other day and saw 6600 on the tach , everything felt right but I backed way off anyway to be safe. I seemed to be slow comparing my gps to rpms at speed, slower speeds and at idle seemed to be correct though. thankskbgfish, there should be a little “switch” on the back of your tach. This allows the tach to be used for different cylinder engines. Note the position of your switch and then flip it back and forth several times to improve the contacting surfaces. Then make sure to put it back where you originally had it. This should take care of your issue. I had the same thing happen to me and this information came from my “wrench” and it worked perfectly. Jim Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
That engine should have a 555 control module and can not over twist. No matter what the tach says, it cant.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on August 2nd, 2011, 11:19 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Thanks, I will try those tips to get it straightened out. Glad to hear I have the governor protecting from overev and max rpms,
My Tach reads a about 300 – 400 RPMs slow per the computer reading/printout. When I had an annual service check and comparison to the reading Vs the computer, it seems to be slow. I assume that the calibration process should be something that needs to be improved.
I have beede analog rpm gauge. I also have a mercury smartcraft in the speedo hole. So heres my issue. Today while running it was showing 6600 but looked at my monitor and it showed 5400. It done this a couple times through the day. My voltage on my monitor was 13.8 to 14.0. Puzzled me its been reading close to accurate to the monitor. Any ideals 2013 200 proxs. If this was a older model Id be looking at a voltage regulator. These newer motors Im lostLast edited by Redngoo on November 30th, 2015, 12:35 pm, edited 1 time in total.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
First thing I would try is on the back of your tach there is a pole switch that can be set for different motors. Look at where its setting now and rotate it back and forth a few times and set it back where it originally was. Lots of times they will get a bad connection at the pole switch and do exactly like you describe.
It is either tachometer settings or a bad tachometer. We dont believe Beede analog has a pole setting to adjust pulse settings.
Wat is the warranty on beede gauges or do they have any. Just a curious question. Next question . If it has no setting on the back how do you adjust it. Does bcb stock this gauge for purchase?Last edited by Redngoo on November 29th, 2015, 2:18 pm, edited 1 time in total.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
The warranty on that gauge by Beede we re not exactly sure of ourselves, BCB on its own honors up to 2 years from purchase date or initial registration on most parts they install as OEM. If there is no setting, and we dont believe Beede has one, there is no way to adjust or clean the contact.
Thanks bcb! 2 yrs was up in march. Guess Ill call Allan see if I can order2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
So I called richard today ! He advised me to take tack out. And look it over. Check connections! Well it does have pole setting on the back. I tried the cleaning contacts tricks. Havent run yet but at least its worth a shot before purchasing a new tach.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
