The last few seasons Ive put in a lot of effort into becoming more organized. The one thing I thought of doing was keeping notes of my days on the water. I think it could be useful in separating a binder or small notebook into seasons or even separating it by lake. Perhaps having a set document printed that you can record important information like season, water temperature, air temperature, wind direction and speed, water clarity, depth fished, pattern determined,bait/presentation(s) used etc. so it can be recorded quickly and efficiently. I feel like theres days when conditions are similar or even remembering small details of how you caught them that day would useful in finding a place to start.Does anyone else do this? What have you found to be a successful way or recording your data? Its January 6th today and being in the north we have a lot of time to sit and think about next season so you could say Im a bit anxious to get back on the water and do it better than I did last year…and Im bored
Ever heard of a computer? A smart phone? 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
There are several apps for your phone that allow this information to be stored but be careful if you have “secret” places you fish. Some apps, like FishBrain I know, share your location with other users. Some apps are combined with other location services and shared with graph / map manufacturers. Then theres the thing that actually attaches to your rod, I forget the name of it but it logs # of casts, catches, and location I do believe while syncing with your phone. There are other options for doing what youre wanting to do that would be easier to manager and have the ability to store other information as well. Most will store weather conditions including wind and barometer conditions. Weather leading up to the day of fishing, fronts, and Im pretty sure you can store water temp as well by manually inputting that information.Another option would be to simply get yourself a GoPro and record your trips. You can do an introduction announcing the water temps, weather conditions, or whatever other info youre wanting to keep up with. I know several that do this. Theyll go back and see if they did anything different the casts that had strikes as far as working the bait. You can get on-screen date / time stamp so you can keep up with the times too.Just a couple of other options for you…nothing wrong with pen and paper though.Purchased new 5/4/15Bass Cat Sabre Vision EliteMercury Pro XS 150MotorGuide 75lb Tour EditionHumminbird – Stock (will be changing soon I hope)
The old school way of jotting trip details in a notebook is very attractive to us old school guys, but it really would be a lot more useful to get a computer program or a phone app design to let you quickly retrieve information based on location or date or fish species etc.You could set up your own version with a base word document that you copied and edited each time. Using prominent works in the title of each document that you could later search for like Lake name etc
i used my memory for all that kind of stuff until recently. Now the memory is full and cannot be retrieved as easy so wished I would have written it all down
Ive been chatting with a guy on BBC whos been using a spreadsheet to manage his trips. After inputting all the data hes able to sort his next trip based on current conditions which gives him a place to start if hes having problems coming get up with a plan. It would be interesting to see if you can run stats on success /failure of the trip by monitoring your data to give you the best probability on success. Although I feel like this could end up looking like a baseball player stat sheet with advanced sabermetrics
On my iPhone there is a tab called Notes. Every time you create a new one it dates the note and you can also make the first line of the note the date and lake and that will be the title of that note. This will help speed up finding the right date and locale.2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
