PLEASE COME ONE COME ALL TO THIS..WOULD LIKE YALL TO BE SPECIFIC AND AS LONG AS YOU LIKE…. ANN AND I BOTH HAVE ROD LOCKERS FULL,WITH ALL KIND OF BAITS TIED ON…90% OR MORE OF THE TIME WE ARE CHUNKING PLASTICS; LIZARDS, WORMS, FLUKES IN DIFFERENT WAYS….. WHAT I AM ASKING FROM YOU, IS THAT YOU SHARE YOUR PATTERNS FOR ALL THE SEASONS, YOUR DIFFERENT BAITS, COLORS, SIZES, ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL…… I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THIS….THANKS ROBIN
Ill give you Dougs- Jig. Pick the ones you like and buy every trailer color Change size and color to suit location. No I am not joking. Theres something to be said for playing to your strengths. Hes a lot less confused than I am when we fish and we have never been unable to pattern fish. Even when he starts catching fish on me I will make some lure changes around his jig and usually will start to do the same.Last edited by clownshoes on January 8th, 2009, 5:13 pm, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. Stay off the public water and fish at the country club lake. They like them plastic worms. Seriously though, I like a jig. Anywhere and anytime of the year. Just adjust your size and color to conditions. Very versatile bait. You can swim it, fish it shallow, or in 30 of water. When they get lock jaw and you need a few keepers in the boat I like a 1/4 oz shaky head worm on 8-10lb floro. They will bite that when nothing else seems to work. Not a pro but my .02
Ward and i were talking the other day,,,,,,I carry 600lbs of tackle in my boat, and always end up with a jig, and open one box on the boat all day long,,,,,SO, i need to clean my boat out, and carry a handful of lures, and most of the year that will be jigs. Black/blue with black, and blue trailers. Simple. Imagine what i could do if i learned how to use other lures !
Summer/Winter 1/2 oz. ball head jig with 3or 4 aught hook/5-6 inch grub in smoke or white color. Vertical jigged on 12 lb. test. Can be fished down to 35 ft.. Fish to side of shad schools. 3/4 oz. ball head with 4 or 5 aught hook/6-10 inch grub in black/red/or dark purple. Cast on 20 lb. braid ahead of deep shad schools and let sink to just below school. Slowly lift and drop for large lazy bass. Can be fished to 55-60 ft.. Think not? A lot of those large bass migrate after the spawn to the pelagic shad in the channels. Even though the thermocline may be at 20-30 ft., if there is enough oxygen for the bait fish, there is enough for predators such as bass annd walleye. They just conserve energy and wait for prey to fall to them. Of course this wont work for some of our Southern Lads because their lakes may be only 15 ft. deep! LOZman
55 or 60? I dont think many of our ponds around here are that deep!
I learned a long time ago taht old dogs are probably doing the right tricks! Just keep chunking what you have confidence in and adjust to the particular situation!!BAYOU BANDIT
Chet, I agree. If I have to catch them in 50-60, I will be fishless. I am going to try to teach myself to fish the DD22s and the big Fat Free Shad crankbaits. I have zero confidence in them and I just need to marry myself to my crankin stick for a couple of trips. I have seen a lot of people catchin on those big crankbaits. I dont know how to go about it, but I am going to learn. I usually have something tied on to a carolina rig (usually a beaver) or a jig at all times and usually what I end up fishing with if I cycle thru a handful of other baits with little success. I buddy of mine also has me fishing the 7.5″ culprit type worms again. Everyone going to those big worms, forgot how much they liked for the original. I love a buzzbait in the summer as well at dusk and dawn. I think this is a great topic. -Lee
As a newbie, I have yet to get into the basscat clique. A whole book could be written on this subject. I would love to help out if I can, but want to know if this is a serious post, or more of a jab at friends.
NO JOKE……….IM REALLY SERIOUS……………….THANKS ROBIN
