terrova mounting

I have a 11 Puma. It has a motorguide trolling motor on it currently. I went out and purchased a Minn Kota Terrova 101. With the pointed nose of the Puma and the Terrova wanting you to shove it over the edge, I just could not see mounting this thing. Anyone with this trolling motor mounted? Seems if I could buy or build a sliding bracket it would work but out of the box I cant see it happening.

I think you will get overhang on any of the MinnKota trollers. This is a Maxxum Pro on a Sabre.

I did see the quick release mounts on the site. I question that the slide is strong enough to extend out for use in a open position.

The problem with the Terrova series is that the base is so short, by the time you get it out far enough to clear you have 2 of the 6 mounting holes over the boat and the next two so close I doubt you can get to them.

I just removed my old motor guide and installed a terrova, the over hang is nuts! i did not want to drill any extra holes so I bought a piece of marine starboard, cut to fit, this allowed me to use the 4 existing motor guide holes to mount the starboard to the boat, then used 4 bolts to mount the Terrova to the starboard, if i would have gotten a longer piece of starboard i could have used all 6 Terrova holes.will take pictures later and post them.

Just an idea, but could you use the longer plates for the Fortrex and just mount the Terrova on the end. You could then use the existing holes in the boat and still mount the motor with all of its mounting holes. Plus the added benefit of a quick release when needed. You would maybe have to drill a couple of holes in the mounting plate, but not the boat.

here is a link to basically what i did, the only difference is mine only cost $20 and is very sturdy. i had the removable plate for the Terrova but is short just like the Terrova, the longer one for the Fortexx might work but it does not show the width as the Terrova is a little wider, if you want a more solid mount for the 101 I would go with what they did in the link.http://texasfishingforum….tch_from_Maxxum_to_Terro

Thought about that, even bought one to look it over. Decided to custom fab the bracket instead. I will post up pictures and the reasoning behind my decisions. Thanks

I think the key to using this trolling motor is to get it mounted at more of a right angle than the previous unit.
