I dont see too much written about the “new” Jaguar and Id like to know more. I currently own a 2008 Puma (loaded with 250 Pro XS) and love the boat. Runs 70 at 5900 full load w/Fury 26″.Id like some input as to the pros / cons of Jaguar vs the Puma/Cougar FTD. Im interested in:1) Performance2) Fishability3) Hole shot (with 250 Pro XS)4) Handling compared to 20 ft Euro hullsIn a nut shell why dont more own or fish out of the Jag? is it because:1) Its more expensive?2) Not as fast?3) Not as nimble?4) Overkill5) Needs a big four strokd to really run?Does it kind of lumber like a Z521? or is it simply a big version of a typical fast. quick handling, solid Bass Cat?Would like to see comments from those who have owned / driven / fished out of both late model Puma/Puma FTD/Cougar FTD and Jaguar.PS: Whats the width of the trailer compared to Puma/Cougar?Thanks very much!Danny
Just curious, is 70 top speed of the typical Puma with a 250? I would think that rig could run faster.
A) From a prostaffers standpoint you dont see them doing it because of worries in quick resale on this high end of the price scale.B) From the average retail end I figure the increased price tag and the drop in speed is what scares some folks off.C) From my clownshoes wanna be derby angler standpoint the fact that I cant run anything over 250 in some events is the issue for me and unfortunately for BCB sales I like my 09 Puma FTD just fine.Had a good friend fish one from California Delta to the Red River and he had no problems in between. Did shallow stumps of the Red just fine. Had owned 13 other basscats prior. Really liked the boat.Ride? In big water its simply unmatched.Holeshot? My understanding and from what I saw of Ricks a few years ago the holeshot was great and as good as any.Agility? I watched Rick do a quick doughnut in a south Arkansas oxbow that I wouldnt have done-Width on trailer I assume is near maximal lane width laws if I remember correctly? But who cares!I would expect from folks that have had one with a 250 that it would be an overgrown p4 in speed- 65-6 loaded and 72 light on an early spring morning. If money fell out of the sky Id probably get one, have motor modified by DBR after warranty was gone. Love mine. 2010 Jag with 250 SHO. I think its very agile, but I came out of Skeeter. Hole shot is just fine and it runs in the 70s all day long. My partner ran it February 2 years ago loaded and full of fuel 74.9 by himself and he has very little time behind the wheel. Its like driving my mamas old Lincoln Town Car she had in the 90s. Plenty of get up and go, but just floated down the highway. They are $$$, but I had no idea what a Puma cost till I was at a dealership a few months ago. If it were any other company it wouldnt be worth the money, but it is a Bass Cat and it is built like it. If it were just me or me and sometimes a partner I wouldnt have got it. But I have son that is starting to fish with us and I wanted plenty of room up front, cause I have been known to take a dip in the past. Its like the Ranger Z522, how many of these have you seen? I havent seen another Jaguar in person since I got mine. If you are ever in the upstate of South Carolina near the Georgia line, contact me. Ill let you experience it first hand. Britt
Danny,They should be on everyones bucket list for a last boat. You have pegged cost, size, fuel efficiency and more as reasons we dont build more Jaguar models. It is absolutely the finest ride out there with a 350 Verado. Nothing, absolutely nothing, can compare to it in all aspects. With a 300 Verado they are a country Mercedes or Bentley and have the whole gammit covered. With a 250 SHO they will day in and day out compete with most rigs on performance and they offer the other aspects of a Jaguar that competitive boat brands do not have. With a 250 Pro XS and a down size on propeller to a 24 or 23 and they are 70 MPH rigs with potential for more empty and less really loaded down. Some spin a 26″ wheel and light tackle, though a 25″ might be better. 24 x .92 = 22.08 x 5850 = 129,168 / 1.75 = 73,810.2857 / 63,360 = 1.16493506 x 60 = 69.90 MPH Give or take some RPM you get the idea. If you can spin a 25″ wheel then odds are they pull 70 plus. Down to a 23″ and they might pull 67 or 68 MPH. With the 350 Verado they can pull into the 80s mark easily empty and upper 70s (78) to 80 loaded. If your asking about the Jaguar for your knowledge, then yes they are very expensive rides. They cost for the tackle system, stereo and everything that is standard on a Jaguar and may not be offered on other rigs. They all come with grab post, dual brake, back uplights and more. We do not offer a stripped down Jaguar. Best part is that wives tend to really like the big boat, large decks and the ride. As stated above, it is everyones rig to own last as they are where we all hope to end our lives at, on top. If anyone is interested in a ride on a Jaguar the one ata the factory is always available for test rides. Dealers can not stock one for cost reasons and each individual want on that size boat, though some do have access to a Jaguar. BCB
It is all that and a bag of chips!! Its funny, I have never had anyone from this board or any other online site come and ride in my Jag. They must have heard about my fishing skills. I did make it to one of the SEBCOG, back in 2010. If my partner makes it back from Asscrackastan by the next one we are gonna do everything we can to be there. If you ever get a chance to ride in or drive one, it is fun. Britt
A Jag with a 350 Verado cannot be touched. It was the most impressive boat that Ive ever driven. Definitely a boat to own some day.

BrittBritt,Back when you first had your Jag/SHO setup I know you had that WOT potential in it. 250HP on the Jag is more then enough power. Congrats, Also, you have (Jaguar) which is the ultimate head turner at the boat ramp. Hope to see you back at SEBCOG someday.Fly
