Question for Bass Cat! We tied for the wild card on Thursday . You announced our names & decided the money should go to the team below us ( 227th). Please explain why this money was not divided between the 2 tied teams. I also noticed 355th place was a tie on Friday, did the monies go to 356th place? Thanks for your time. Sheryl, team #55
That is not a decision, those are the guidelines set forth for the Wild Card. Because there was no 227th team, you were tied for 226th place on Day One. Which means that you either did not have a big bass weight, or you were tied with one fish. Thus by the guidelines set forth it went to the team in 228th. As we go down the list and this was posted. The tie mentioned was for 355th place. Which was a three way tie, and thus there are no 356th and 357th places. None of those team had a large fish, and had the same catch, thus a tie. There were also the exact same weights in other instances, though they were determined by the tournament rules which are Largest Stringer breaks the tie (# of Fish) and then the second tie breaker is Largest Bass. One had 3 fish and the other team had 4 fish, though the weights were identical. The other tie had the same number of fish, and a larger big bass recorded. Please Explain, We had two fish. Does this mean each fish should have been weighed individually to come up with a big fish weight?
They would have had to have been weighed to have established a big bass weight. On the tie for 226th, apparently neither team weighed one for big bass, as the two fish only weighed 4.09 together, averaging about 2 pounds a piece. And both teams had two fish, thus that tied and there was no big bass weight, thus a tie for 226th place existed between two teams. Those teams being # 412 of Don Moore and Steven Sallee, and the # 55 team of Brad & Sheryl Dake with 4.09 pounds each. Since there was no 227th place, the stipulations on the Wild Card are printed with “Move Down the List for double ups”. This was established as the only major prize a team could win years ago was the Big Bass, and only one of those. The First Place team of the Schnables, thus forfeited the Third Big Bass on Day Two, as they had the Big Bass on Day One. The reason that stipulation was created for the Optional Entry was years ago one team had Two (2) large fish on one day. Which meant they took home two (2) big bass awards. This also then began applying to the Wild Card once it was begun. Though you could still again win one Wild Card and Big Bass. Though no more. We hope this explains the situation and that you understand the reason you were not 227th. The team in the tie with you for 226th would have had to weighed a larger fish or more fish, then you would be 227th with 4.09 and they would have been 226th with 4.09. Thus on tie. This was determined much prior to the program beginning and was not a show item. It was asked prior to the program for a rules, policy and regulations verification. The entire list of weights is on line in the format with weight, and you can verify any of the weight totals for the event. We hope this fully explains how this occurred. And we do understand how the question exists with the tie of 355th place. Though in the case of these two teams that was not the situation. Thank You for participating! BCB
To prevent this from happening to us & others should everyone weigh their largest bass for big bass to avoid a tie. Boy, That will add a lot of time & waiting in even longer lines! But, I guess Rules Rule! Seems Rules need to be revised!
We doubt the rules, regulations or policies will be revised on this. Since it is a Wild Card, there is no way to determine the loss or benefit from weighing a big bass. The tie could have just as easily been for 227th, which would have left both teams splitting the Wild Card winnings as the 355th place teams did. The goal is to add some fun and chance to the event. This has worked well and there have been previous ties for places in the past which have required the next team to receive the Wild Card position.
I understand your position on this but, your explanation is odd. We could tie for 227th ( since there was no 227th place) or 355th place but not 226th. Im finally understanding. Its all so very clear to me now! I hope everyone that reads this has learned more than I have. I would like everyones feed back on this subject. Thanks.
Not sure I am following… The way I would see it is if both teams have a tie and both teams weighed the same amount of fish ( two each) and no big bass was established then the two teams should split any monetary prizes that are awarded, but if this was pre establised as per the rules then oh well it is what it is. I hope to be there next year.
There is one position for each team weighing a fish. Since these two teams tied for 226th, the next position in the field is 228th. Guidelines were in place to fill the “Wild Card” position by moving down in that situation. Which handles all situations no matter the issue. Having done this for decades, there are guidelines in place. Had there been one team more with higher weight in front of these teams, their tie would have been for 227th and thus they would share the funds for 227th. There was no 227th.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on May 3rd, 2009, 3:23 am, edited 1 time in total.
I believe BCB is fair and square in how they do things and put on a nice tournament. That said, this was just our second year and we dont fully understand all the places or how things are determined. A few things we dont understand or are not fully aware of: Wild Card Default Duck We didnt know about the smallest fish being a prize/place until another team mentioned it. Do you have to ask for a fish to be weighed seperately for it to be eligible for big bass, then if so, does its weight still count toward your total for all fish. Those are a few things that come to mind. Just in talking to folks, it seems the folks that have been coming awhile have a reasonably good idea of things, while some newer folks are not completly up to speed on some of the details. Perhaps in future years, BCB could post in detail or put something out going over these things before the tournaments.
