Tips for removing BCB installed flush mounted 998?

I have a 14 Puma FTD. Im wanting to install a 1198 or 1199 with a sherms mount, on the console. I currently have a 998 flush mounted which I believe was installed by BCB. From reading other posts it sounds like they are mounted with a urethane adhesive. Any tips for removing the flush mounted 998 would be appreciated.

I was thinking Silicone. If it is that should not be too bad getting it out.Dan

There should be brackets on the rear holding the units as well as urethane.

Firstly, go under the dash and take off the nuts securing the bracket and remove it from the back of the unit. Then, take a putty knife and carefully and patiently work around the outside of the front of the unit, wedging the knife in. Eventually you will break the urethane seal and the unit will come out.

Maybe this question dont come from a negative form. If it does its not meant to. Why use urethane? As most change their unit out or modifi. Especially in todays world with all the New electronics hitting the market. Some years back I mounted a unit on a 88 cat with nothing more than silicone. Not even one screw. I hate drilling holes. It stayed for years..as I understand todays units are much heavier. Putty knife is what I used as well…worked well and only had to do the top on my boat with a HB 788 for it to break loose.Catdude, it was nice to know that the old units were installed well to me. To have and not need is better than needing and not having…I would assume this is the thinking on the factory installation. The design of the new Euro consoles and Cafe windscreens to divert wind as well as they do, requires a unique curve in front of the console. That tightens the area underneath the console where space is minimized and brackets dont fit well. Vibration and looseness in rough water is also a concern. Console graphs are much wider and with the windscreen design and console we dont have much room across the face also. Humminbird console brackets tend to be on the upwards side of the unit where they are difficult to install and urethane makes the install simpler. Unlike many (most) windscreens on bass boats that are just a cosmetic part, one that is pretty and does not work, the Cafe windscreen works very well and has no vacuum pocketing behind the windscreen. Everything is good other than our shoulders are wider than the windscreen in rain.
