Well, things happen…. but when taking it to the tire dealer they were very surprised that my 2011 Eyra has (according to them) old Cooper car tires on them. He said they are not rated for a boat trailer and the “bead” is not strong enough. The bead is exactly what blew out on the tire. We were driving around 45 mph going around a turn when it happened. The dealer said that he can no longer get this tire…. Is my dealer just not in the know? Bass Cat, please let me know how I should proceed. Im sure something is not right….
We would gamble that your bead lip looks just like a large lip where it is turned out. No, Your dealer is in the know on availability also. Though Cooper was aware of the trailer use, and is well aware of the bead on the tire popping on only a short run of tires. There is an ongoing investigation by Cooper, which one would suppose might impact the availability? Seems like rather coincidental timing would you not say? W Contact your local dealer and them contact BCB Service tomorrow. They will need the production numbers off your trailer to establish that it is within the suspected range. The passenger car tires have been used for years with no issues, including Cooper till a recent run. Take a suggested trailer tire and investigate the sidewall thickness and bead thickness on those for your satisfaction and peace of mind on the passenger car use. Which do you think costs more and gets the most focus from the manufacturer? The soccer Mom tire with three young ones in the car seats, or the trailer tire carrying the boat or who knows what on the road behind a truck. You guessed it and this one has their attention as a result of that. BCB
Funny that I see this topic. I had 2 blow on my new Puma FTD. I didnt bring it up to Basscat I just took them to my local dealer. There they replaced them and said Cooper has had some problems with them. No questions asked. I would take it to your tire dealer.
Wish you had Joe and funny your tire dealer made that comment. We have been chasing that rabbit.
Cooper has Always been a Awesome Tire Company, Up in the Great White North of Northern Wisconsin we used them Exclusively on all season type of cars, hell I learned how to Drift in the snow at speeds unmentionable with Cooper Lifeliner Classics (how the hell do I remember this crap),on a public forum, Sorry Neighbors…….Your Signature …
Not bashing at all but why does Bass Cat keep putting these tires on trailers if they know they are bad? Would it not be better to just change tire dealers?
My coopers have been:Mtn Home to SacramentoSac to RooseveltSac to MeadSac to all over CASac to Little Rock across Mojave desert in July Little Rock to MS, LA, TX.Get used at least 100 miles every other week while in Arkansas for past 2 years.Same 4 tires in less than 3 years of use. No issues. Never had the spare on once. Not all of them are bad. Just a recent trend and solving such issues requires time.C.O.D. Jr. III
These Cooper Cobras have been almost flawless for the last several years Grant2, as BCB had more issues with Marathon tires, thus changing to Triangles for the STD. Tire in 2010 or 2009. The problems only developed within the recent months and BCB made a statement here that they temporarily switched to BF Goodrich, another American tire. Then they recently settled on at Stinger raised white letter as it is a USA made label privately made by Cooper as a different brand. These have not developed a single issue yet. Hope this answers your question.
What brand are the Triangles. Are they passenger tires or trailer tires?
They are Trailer tires, though the sidewall and bead are not as thick as the Coopers.
