ive managed to plan a sneak away three day….SAT SUN MON. its gotta be on the verge of EXPLODING up there !?
Sad news buddy…..I havent been since Tuesday, and I head back to work tomorrow for the entire weekend. The only fishing I have gotten to do is perch jerking off the boat dock and Im getting some meat in the freezer. The good news is that you wont be lonely out there. LMAO!!!!!! We have the Texas Oilmans, the Bass-n-Bucks and the Wal-Mart BFL as well as a couple of smaller tourneys. Oilmans is out of Cypress Bend on Friday and Saturday…..Bass-n-Bucks is out of Big Bass on Saturday……BFL is out of San Miguel on Saturday…..there is a couples tourney out of Fin and Feather on Saturday…..and one out of North Toledo Bend State Park on Saturday. Of course that doesnt dictate where they will run to fish but those are the launches to avoid. As far as I know the Oilmans is the only one that allows trailering and there are so many of those guys that any ramp is going to be fairly busy.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
im still convinced the main reason i caught my only ten pounder was because the lake hadnt received much pressure that spring (march 2006) because the low lake levels forced the cancellation of both oilmens tourneys that year. 1000+ boats can shut down the fishing in a hurry. the good news is most will be off the water by midday sunday. might just take my time leaving lafayette sat morning, now, and fish til dark that afternoon as everyone is pulling out. the only nice thing about those tourneys is those guys CANT fish late afternoon/early evening on event days, so the lake can actually clear up pretty quickly by 3PM. with this daylight savings stuff, we can fish til almost 8 pm now.to actually live on the lake and not be able to fish right now would simply kill me! this weather has got me stoked !
It is murder! Ive been watching the boats going by and silently cursing. hahaha. I stopped mowing long enough to talk to a BFL guy that was fishing around my dock. I guess the best thing is that once the chores are done, I can fish weekdays when most people are working.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Rub it in Jim!!!!! One day Ill be up there full time.CC, from the bridge to about Indian mounds they are definately moving up. My neighbor has been there all week. Said it was slow fishing monday through wednesday but they turned on yesterday and today. They have had the best luck on weightless senkos and flukes, wat/red in 3-8 ft with grass. The grass is key. Good luck. maybe will see you out there Oh, and TB, hate you gonna miss the mudbugs this weekend!!!! (thats for reminding everyone you fish all week)Last edited by Loanshark on March 16th, 2012, 7:54 pm, edited 1 time in total.
THATS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING TO HEAR . heading up sat morning! sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
The Louisiana Oilmans was cancelled…..they jumped the gun a bit and didnt trust Mother Nature. The Texas Oilmans is the one this weekend. They fish Friday and Saturday, so the lake should have semi-normal traffic by Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Ive been thinking seriously about Indian Mounds. I learned a little bit from the Elites last year. Loanshark…..I am definitely unhappy that I cant be there for the bugs, but Ill be satisfied if we can just hit a weekend where we can share the boat and get our lines stretched.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
I can confirm what Loanshark stated about grass. Fished a club tourney yesterday and today. Yesterday was crazy, we fished Six Mile out toward the main lake and there were boats every where. We did manage 4 keepers that totaled 7.58. Today was a whole new ball game, only a few boats and you could move around. Found fish early on flats chasing shad. The wind picked up and pushed us off. Went to a bank and found them in the grass like Loanshark said. Finshed with a limit that weighed 16.10. This was my first tourney since I bougth my cat, it was great to win on its first trip.I a side note my partner was killing the white bass on a chrome trap. Man sure wish i had put a big cooler in the boat!
Id add something but thats the exact report Ive got. Lots of #s with smaller fish and the bigger ones just started showing up. Other than Sat, boat traffic wasnt bad for us. We were around the Indian Mounds camping and had a blast either way.
saturday stunk. we didnt get on water until 2PM, but man it was SLOOOOOOOOOOW. not a single keeper. wind is howling!sunday we limited out, but it took 12 hours to do so. soft plastics, with very little weight in 4-6 grass. covered lots of water…im still rocking back and forth monday morning was the ticket! only two throwbacks, but i caught a five, a four, and three 3.5-3.75 lb. all on wacky worm or weightless lizard in 2-4, except one 3.5lb on red spinnerbait. found some super clear water with scattered grass right off main lake on tx side.. nice having cove to ourselves today. fish look like theyre finally ready to make a move, however, lots of rain expected this week. well see.
