I have a 96 Jaguar with a 96 Mercury 225 efi. When I bought it last year with 3 people tournament load it would run 68-70mph. The original prop was a 25 pitch Fury. Before I bought the boat the prop was damaged and replaced with a used 23 pitch Tempest. I had to have the foot rebuilt from hitting a stump. Before I broke it in and could see the top speed. I had another graph along with a double mount to the front. Garmin Force trolling motor. Two 8′ power poles and a extra battery. I went from one 31 series Interstate and two 27 series batteries to one 31 series agm from interstate and 3 blue top batteries. I also had the prop checked out and it was straightened out and left at 23 pitch.

I’m still turning 6100 rpms which is to much. But I’m only running 60 mph. I’ve lost 10 mphs turning the same rpms. If anyone has a suggestion or is running a similar setup and could tell me what they are running I’d appreciate it.

This post is hard to follow…..Sounds as if this boat ran 68-70 with the previous ower? The prop was then changed from a 25p fury to a 23p tempest. In addition, the gear case was damaged. Then you added weight to the bow by adding a second graph and a mount. You also added a new troller, an extra battery, and power poles. Everything that has been done here will hinder your top end speed. A boat that old is likely a mid 60’s mph top end boat loaded as is. I would trash the Mercury Tempest prop and find a Fury 3 prop. I would also get a 23p prop. If you can’t find that prop, then get a 23 Mercury Trophy prop. With your current set up you can try lowering the engine w/ the jack plate at least 1/4″ or more to get you rpms down and see if your speed picks up.

It would run 68-70 with the Tempest 23p. I added the equipment and had the prop checked out while I was having the equipment installed. The foot had the insides replaced. Now I’m turning about the same rpms but around 10mph slower.

Take the trolling motor off the boat, run to the lake and watch what happens.

Every 10 pounds you drop on the nose is probably 2 to 3 MPH.

Have your prop checked by a reputable prop shop. Sounds like you may need more cup to prevent slippage.

As others have said adding weight to the front equates to slower speeds.

Prop to pad is so red kneck it isn’t even funny! There is NO prop to pad special setting. Why, it all depends on how you load the boat. This statement would be more true if all boats where empty. That statement is like telling a drag car to just set tire pressure to here and you will run 10’s in the quarter mile.
