Found out yesterday that I have a torn labrum. Just trying to find out the recovery time for this type of injury, heard possibly 3-6 months. Which would put it around the OI, which I really dont want to miss.
Are you having surgery or not. Is it your dominant arm. Let me know and I can get you some info. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
Torn what? Just kidding. Your orthopedic surgeon is the only place youll get the answer that counts. It doesnt matter what someone here tells you- you got to deal with your doctor.C.O.D. Jr. III
Ward is right about the surgeon. If you have any significant tear of the labrum, your options will be very limited. You will likely be headed toward surgery, and then spend some time in rehab. I am a physical therapist, and I wont even pretend that I could do ANYTHING to help prior to surgery. After surgery, you will likely spend about 3 months in physical therapy. This all depends on your activity level and your long term goals. You have given very limited information so far, and specifics are hard to discuss without more info. By the way, if you are wanting to make the OI, get the quickest surgery date you can and allow the most time for rehab prior to the OI. Hope some of that helps. Feel free to email if you would rather do that. kbcharles@hotmail.com KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
I see the shoulder specialist on Monday. I dont know how bad the tear is yet but he will tell me. It is my dominant arm, so I will just have to learn to throw more lures left handed, maybe this will make me a better jig fisherman. The OI and being able to coach my sons baseball team this summer are big goals for me.
I tore mine a few years back when I took a tumble in the boat. They had to attach it back to the bone. To be honest I was fishing again in 6-8 weeks. After the surgery the worst part was the first few sessions of physical therapy. Getting you arm up above your shoulder for the first time was very painful. It got better each time. Mine was my left shoulder so I was casting with my right. I guess that helped some. I was able to keep my left arm down by my side and hold the rod with that hand. You will be fine just it done and do the physical therapy by the book. You will make the OI. Since it is your dominant arm you will have to throw side arm. You just wont be able to raise up and throw straight over the top as easy.Last edited by Bama96 on January 9th, 2009, 6:48 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Thats good news on the possibility of being able to make the OI in time. I know all people recover differently, but it does give me a goal to concentrate on when doing the rehab.
Got the results today from the shoulder specialist, the tear is not as bad as they thought. It is still torn but all I have to do is therapy for now. Four weeks of therapy and then see how it heals. Playing baseball and softball for the last 36 years of my life probably contributed to the injury. Just glad to hear from the doctor that it probably wont affect my spring fishing plans and I will also be able to fish in my first BassCat OI. Guys thanks for all the well wishes.
Great news. Im glad that it is better than you thought. Hopefully you will be back to 100% in a few weeks and have no problems with fishing and coaching your sons baseball team. Glad to hear the good news. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax

You should make the OI easily. Good Luck.
