I have an 04 classic w/ a 200 merc. The boat has hyd. steering, but is tough to turn, and when you get her going she really pulls to the right….now I know pulling to the right is normal but its becoming a fight to steer. Anybody?

Is it at idle and high speed or just at high speed, does it have a jack plate?

The engine should be lowered to remove that surfacign propeller blade which is causing that steering wheel torque. Try dropping it about 1/2″ and see what you have. BCB

Iceman, yes I have a jackplate and its not as smooth as it should be at idle…BCB I also noticed, and darned if I can think of what this part is called, I had one on my old boat, its a gray round metal part that goes above the prop, my old boat had one and it had a small “skag” there is a metal part on this boat but no small “fin” or “skag” attached. Im sorry I cant think of the name of this. Would that make a diff?

We could remove the torque tab (sacrificial anode) on a Mercury engine and you would never notice. The steering may have some extra torque on it sitting, though hydraulic is not power steering. The engine needs to be lowered significantly and it is that simple. The answer on this is lower your engine.

Youd be surprised what a 1/2″ will do when you lower your motor as BCB said. I ran into the same thing on a Pantera II I had. Im with Phil….another vote for lowering the motor. God bless
