Topic: Tow Ball height reccomendation for tandem axle trailer

I amd anxiously awaiting my PII (ordered 8 weeks & 1 day ago in blueberry/silver mist/canary yellow) with a tandex axle trailer. Im driving myself crazy waiting and trying to make sure I have everything ready to go when it gets here. What is the current reccomended tow ball height for the tandem axle trailers? I have a tri-ball at about 20″ above the ground and wondered if a 2″ drop putting it closer to 18″ would be a more level ride? Any suggestions would be appreciated. (P.S. if anyone at the factory forsees my boat leaving in the next week or so please let me know so I can get some sleep). Thanks.

18″ is the recommended height. At that height, my Cougar trailer sits level when attached to my Sierra.

I have a Ford F-150 with 20″ wheels and tires and a 2 1/4″ drop hitch and it puts the top of my ball at 19″ and when you get the tongue weight on the ball it is completely level and tows great. Enjoy your new boat. My boat is a 2013 Puma FTD.

Newer trailers are from 19″ to 21″ top of ball height. Older trailers run from 18″ to 20″. We like the 21″ number on new stuff.

Just picked up my new p2 my ball height is 19 1/2″. And it sits nice on a Chevy 2500HD.

I have a tandem axle under a P III, 1998 vintage. I have measured the unloaded ball height and it is 19″.When I hit bumps the trailer is rising off the ball and slamming around. The brakes are smooth; no clunking from them.I can easily raise the tongue off the ball without the jack. Should I look for a 1″ or 2″ increase in height for the receiver to eliminate this problem?Thanks.

If I remember correctly 16 to 18″ from the ground is typical for most trailers from boats to horse trailering and so on they are all set about the same.Practice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO

On older trailers BCB suggests 18″ to top of the ball, later model trailers with 15″ and torsion axles use 20″ to top of the ball.
