If it was me I would just pull the hubs and check the bearings, races and of course the axle where the bearings ride repack the bearings go with new seals and you should be good to go. If the trailer has brakes it would be a good time to look at those too. I know you said something on the trailer indicated 15″ wheels but honestly I would be surprised if BCB made a trailer back in that day that had 15″ wheels. I was thinking the older trailers all had 14s.Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra
Those were 14″ wheels and the tires were changed because the springs are worn out. We stock USA made springs and these are the last ones made for this trailer. We also would run either shorter or longer shackles depending on the version, single or tandem. New springs are the first answer.
thanks guys that is exactly the info i am looking for!!
Ok guys, I have to work on an88 pantera 2 trailer axle. The wheels on it are 14″ , 205 70 14, it cals for 215/15 on trailer tag, 215 were tried but made smoke when a small bump was hit. What do I need to look at as far as what is worn and needing replacement so the owner can get back to the 15 wheels?
Just contact the parts department and let them work it out for you. One axle is longer than the other. BCB
HAHA yeah i was able to figure that much out on my own. After the third phone call and a very willing guy in the parts department who had no luck going through files and finding my order Ive decided to just see about purchasing another axle just dont want to pay 550 for a complete brake axle so hes checking to see if the axle/spindle assembly can be sold separately. Just need to get it installed before snowfall lol. Thanks for the response.
Sounds as if you got a single traile axle. If you used two wheel spacers, you predicament is solved.
Well after the first two phone calls to parts department trying to locate an order number to see what the axle was built to we had no luck. So the third call was getting a price for a new axle delivered again but wanted to verify dimensions before placing the order but havent heard back on that yet since Wednesday. Ive since found a semi local frame and axle shop that can build a square tube axle and will pursue that route instead. I know that people get busy but i have to imagine that if id have spent 60k on my boat and needed assistance i would have had different results but since thats not in my budget I opted to go with the new to me 2000 Jag haha. I still love the boat but got a little frustrated about the axle deal but im over it now. One question. While im having the new axle built i was thinking about switching over to disc brakes what are the thoughts on that?
Sorry for your experience! Sometimes there just seems to be too many fires and not enough water hoses.Dan
Yeah I hear ya im sure theyre pretty busy down there in mountain home. On a side note i hot out of work early today and dropped off the old axle to have one built to fit the trailer.
We can answer that we dont break down end units. We have to jig the axles as a complete unit and the parts are purchased as an assembly with warranty. If your having trouble ask for Lisa. Shes a bit green on parts though one of the reasons for her is to help secure better responses for situations like this. We try hard on customer service and to resolve all issues we can, though we also cant be the only source of parts with our existing staff on P&A. They have added two new people to the parts and service department in the last few weeks and have plans to bring another on board.
