2008 Cougar FTDI recently ordered bearings(from BCB) for my trailer and finally got around to installing. Anyone done this themselves. The large races are a real challenge, small races are no problem. With my press I could not get them in. One out of 4 is now complete. Anyone have any tips? Seems when I press down, the bearing just tilts one way or another and will not press down evenly. I bought a seal kit and one of the adapters is a perfect fit but man, they will not go. I am in a real bind. Any secrets or tips or something.
Put the races in the freezer for a day or so .as this will shrink them a couple thousanths. If you freeze long enough they might even fall in. As in my job we use nitrogen To shrink races and steel sleeves all the time. The freezer will work also it just takes a little longer. As they thaw they go back to the oringinal size2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
I have found that it is much more productive and only somewhat more costly to call basscat and order 4 new complete hub kits every 4 or 5 years than to go through piece by piece. Much better chance at a having a trouble free experience, less work, more time to fish. It worked for me and I even kept a full hub assembly on hand for backup on a long road trip.Chris Coupel Paulina, la.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
Redngoo has it right if you want to do it yourself………freeze the races. Also heat the hubs . You can use a heat lamp or a good heat gun for this. The races should practically fall into place.
Check with one of the local autoparts stores and see if they have a seal and race driver kit to rent. Itwill make a bunch easier.http://www.sears.com/sunex-seal-and-bea … Redirect=y Pro-Tec Productswww.protecproducts.com
One thing you might wanna check. U said u was using a press. Hey this is fine. Generally a race has .001″ crush per inch of race. So a 2″ race would have .002″ crush thats not much. Make sure u have the right races. Any reputable auto parts. Can mic.the old races to the new ones. Generally races dont take much to install. Might be worth checking. When ur talking thousands. That not noticeable to the eye.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
HenryA, check the serial number off the one you removed vs the one sent. On my 2006 Puma the number listed and sent was wrong. Same issue with the press. Quick trip to napa, Numbers matched went right in with the press, no freezing required.
Took mine to a local mechanic to have them removed and pressed in. Seems like it was $15 bucks or so but no worries and new it was done right since I had never installed new ones before.Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra

Guess Im a penny pincher. If they are the right races they Generally knock right in . I generally throw in the freezer a few day before planning on working the job. I use a brass punch they always tap right into place . the bearing knockers are nice. I have even used a socket and a old extension. But I have never had to press a wheel bearing race in. Im thinking u might have the wrong races. The races do have part numbers on them. One manufacturer to another the numbers can be cross referenced .2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
