Trailer brake issue

Just this weekend, I was returning home from fishing and stopped for some gas. I could smell a hot steel smell and when I checked my rear tires on the tandem trailer, they were very hot even the rim was hot which I touched . This is the first issue Ive had with the trailer brakes and did notice that after unhooking the trailer, the wheels were still locked and couldnt push the boat into the garage. Is there any lubing needed on the coupler to help disengage the brakes I should know of before having someone look at it? The trailer has surge brakes. Im hoping I dont need to replace the brakes now.Thanks for any help in advance.If you cant convince them, confuse them.

There is a release under the tongue. Its the rectangle above the round hole.

Odds are the brake cable got pulled and you need to hit (depress) the release tab Izzy mentioned.

Im going to give this a try, but Im certain the cable was never pulled unless someone else has . I will let you know hopefully tomorrow.Thanks again guys.If you cant convince them, confuse them.

Just a bit of a update. I pushed in that tab under the trailer tongue and towed about 1.5 hours today and when I got to the ramp , the hubs and rim were only warm which is what it was always like. The return trip home tho, the rim and hub were very hot and I even ended up losing 2 of my caps for the hub which I now have to replace.If you cant convince them, confuse them.

How much slack do you have in the cable when hooked up.

Sounds like a bad actuator. At least this was the cause of my brake issues last summer. My brakes were doing exactly what yours are doing. I wound up replacing all the bearings & races, seals and the actuator. Have not had an issue since.

Just a bit of a update about the brakes on my trailer. A trailer shop near me said it looks like the actuator is sticking and not releasing properly causing the heated brakes. The part was on back order for 2 weeks and now should be arriving any day now. When the rims got heated up a bit, it warped the center caps covering my bearing covers and fell off from getting distorted. I would like to thank parts for sending me out 2 caps at no charge with some other items I had bought to replace on the boat. Thank you very much for the no charge cap Basscat. Who else would do this on a 06 trailer?If you cant convince them, confuse them.

Im having trouble with my brakes also, the 2 back wheels get hot after awhile, I reset the breakaway sytem but it still gets warm. Is the tab suppose to stay up are down after reseting it.
