I need to replace the carpet on one of my trailer bunks. Fixing to buy the carpet from BCB but wanted to check to see if anyone had any tips or recommendations before I get started?

Is it a good idea to lay down a strip of carpet along the top of the bunk for padding and then wrap carpet around that?

Should I use an adhesive and if so what works best?

When I replaced my bunk carpets I used an outdoor carpet cement. Many folks recommend using Weldwood contact cement. It sets REAL quick so when it’s down it’s done and I am seldom right on the money first time around and found this adhesive to be very forgiving. There was an additional carpet layer on my bunks, and I believe that’s how they came from the factory, so I bought some cheap carpet locally for the extra layer. I had enough BCB carpet to do the job, I just didn’t realize it.

As Richard stated, there is a single piece that lays on the top of the bunk. BCB will send enough carpet to replace it. Make sure first. If the single strip is not torn or worn, you won’t need to replace it.
I removed the main carpet wrap and used it for a pattern for the new carpet.
leave it a bit long in case you don’t get it perfectly centered.
I used the contact cement on mine. This allowed me to start one side and then wrap it tight and work my way down. Stainless staples are a must. I have a pneumatic stapler which puts the staples in deep.

Your input helps a bunch. It’s a fairly simple chore but I just wanted to make sure I’ve got all the bases covered before I start.
