So my wife and I are having a great morning fishing yesterday. Great weather, the fish are biting and all is well until……. a friend calls me and says I had better get back to the ramp. We arrive to see a fender on the trailer smashed to heck and back and pretty much ripped off! the trailer! What a buzz kill!! If I knew how to post the photos I sure would. The guy in the one ton dually (some non boater) parked next to me said that he forgot that there were boat trailers being the trucks in the parking lot and turned too soon and backed into my trailer. What a mess. I had to push the halves of the now two piece fender back together and duct tape the whole mess in place to be able to load up and go home. At least he left me a note. Now is he actually steps up and pays for the damage.I am a stickler about keeping my boat, trailer and truck clean and in like new shape. This really upset me. This is not the first time (but the worst) that this type of thing has happened. I always park as far away as possible in any parking lot to try to prevent this type of issue. I guess from now on, I will have to park somewhere besides in the parking lot. Thanks to Bass Cat for working with me this morning to get a replacement fender in the works right away. As usual, great support and customer service.
Only good part is, the guy did not hit n run ya.
Sounds like the mistake might work out as best can be expected. That would be nice. BCB
Sorry to hear of that txpuma, Im a law enforcement officer in Maine and you should really report it to the Police, thatll be the only way to be sure and get the insurance information or make sure you get the fender paid for. Anything over $1000 in Maine has to be reported, not sure how it works there.
I saw the same thing happen this weekend when I was coming off the lake Monday morning after being out that night. I really wanted to avoid the lake on the holiday weekend since so many “non-regulars” are out there. Went as a favor to my brother. Too much drinking during the holidays at the lake. It was like “divorce court” at the ramp. Sorry you had the trouble and a good day ruined.
As bad as it looks it could be much worse. The person left a note, almost unheard of today! I had a friend that accidentally ruined one of my tandem fenders. I had the trailer at the OI and just had them fix it while I fished. He paid the damages, they fixed it while I fished and all was well in the end. No one was hurt and I promise you couldnt tell me which of my fenders had been changed and which is the original 2007
Mainecat,It just so happened that a Sherriff drove through the parking lot as I was duct taping the two halves together. He said there was nothing he could do since this happened on Corps property and other party was not there. He did give me a accident report that I could fill out and send to the State but he stated that nothing would result from the report. One way or another I will get the damage repaired, it is just frustrating that some folks are so careless.
I hate the bad luck for you. Im also glad the person was enough of a “man” to be honest and leave a note.
had the same thing happen about a month ago……except no note just a busted fender
Does your boat insurance cover the collision of the trailer? Call and ask your carrier….
Someone clipped my fender when BR200 was at a tournament…no note just part of their marker lens stuck in the edge trim and some gouges.I am sure the repair will be under my deductible but they could ahve manned up and left a note.I had a situation like this a few years ago when my Dad was parking my trailer. He bumped into a Gambler trailer and bent the fender. We left a note but the guy never called.
There are still some good folks left in the world. The guy who crashed my trailer paid for the repairs yesterday! Now all I am waiting for is the new fender to arrive and I will be back as good as new.
Very good news. Most boaters are stand folks.
At least you got to talk to the guy. Yea, it was a bone head move on his part, but it was an accident and thats what insurance is for. I had someone hit my trailer while I was going 65mph on the interstate. They just kept on going and although insurance paid for some of it, because they didnt stop I still ended up covering the deductable. Now that stinks!
