While cleaning and organizing my 08 Pantera II I noticed a cracked gusset and weld on my trailer swing tongue. Has anyone had this issue before ? My trailer is never abused or even has that many miles on it for that matter.http://s132.photobucket.com/user/cglenn … l.jpg.html][/URLsuggestions ?
You can reweld and repaint, or you can replace the laser cut cam. We find these on hitches that have not been opened and get some hard tension, or they have offset hitches for campers. The safety pin in the center should keep it fine.
Check with Basscat as they may be able to sent you a raw gusset for it. A good welder will be able to remove it and attach the new gusset. Prime and paint. Just to reassure yourself it doesnt happen again…make sure the swing away pins are not cracked, and are lubricated. If they were frozen in place..its possible to fatique the gusset.
Cajunhunter56 has touched on a potential issue we have seen and that is fatigue related to pins (bolts) not being lubricated while not used. Even though you may not need the pivot tongue or use it, you should lubricate the pivot tongue at all points. We have seen hinge damages asaresult of rusted areas and especially after attempts to release rusted pins and hinges that have not been moved.
