2022 Pantera Classic owner, new to BassCat family. I post this after fixing the problem, for information if anyone is scratching their head about trailer lights. In hindsight, this one is pretty obvious, but it took me a minute to figure it out.
Tow Vehicle: 2014 Toyota Tundra
Issue – After pulling my boat out of the water for the first time at night (with trailer plugged in and lights on – cuz its easier to see the trailer in the water that way), many strange things happened with the lights. 1. All lights (running, brake, and tail) lit with brake pedal and flashed with flashers. 2. None of the running lights worked with tail lights. 3. Right turn signal didn’t work at all.
Repair – 1. Replaced blown 30 amp trailer tail light fuse 2. Cut and replaced burned section of wires – Brown (tail light), Yellow (Right blinker), and Green (Left Blinker) wires were melted/burned from 5 pin plug inside breakaway tongue to about where they exit the tongue and split down the trailer rails.
Result – Everything working as normal.
As I inspected all the wire connections down the rails of the trailer, I noticed multiple connections in the wires made with non-waterproof junctions. I can see small bits of exposed wire heading into those junctions (i.e. where the running light is spliced into the tail light wire). So, I had a submerged wire short, causing the wires to burn and fuse to blow.
Also, I bent in all 4 outside pins in the 7 pin plug from the trailer, to make better connection with truck plug receptacle.
I will be unplugging the trailer when I launch from now on.
