BCB, I have a missing trailer brake light on left side! Apparently got sucked off of trailer pulling it out of the water at Stowaway on Conroe yesterday. When putting the boat in Conroe yesterday, had one of those futz moments. We had backed the boat into the water at Stowaway, when I realized I hadnt taken the straps off the boat on the back of the trailer. No big deal, just pull boat back up and unhook. Done.At that point had a guy that was putting in a big go-fast I/O boat next to mine say that I had something hanging off the back of the trailer. Huh?? Went to look and the left side brake light had went >POPAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I decided to go fishing anyway, since a missing trailer brake light did not affect how well the boat would run. I checked the other (right) brake light when I got back, it felt like it was a little loose inside the rubber grommet thing, but was still on the trailer. The left light was missing the grommet and the light. I thought maybe some b@$t@$&d stole it, but why would they only take one light and how in the hell would they be able to steal it when either my dad or I were both around the boat at Stowaway before we put it on the ramp??!!We checked with the Stowaway office and no one had seen or turned in a trailer light that day. FUTZ! Help!I think when I get time ext weekend, I am going to get some silicone glue and glue-in the one remaining brake light I have so it wont come out at the boat rap. I also noticed that my trailer license plate light is aimed up instead of down at the license plate. I plan on fixing that myself. No big deal there. I was wondering why my license plate was not lit up very well. Doh!Ill call Bowden Marine on Monday and see what they can do about the light. If it warms up this next weekend, after its supposed to be hard freezes on Wednesday and Thursday morning, Ill use the trip to Bowden as an excuse to go fish on Houston or Lake Conroe some more. If the water turns out to be kinda cold to do any good, itll just be a trip up and back. Ill just take the boat home afterwards and do a general wash on it. Its kinda getting dirty.Your Signature …
This wont help you with this incident, but I always carry two spare lights in my truck. Ive never had one fall out or get stolen, but I have them just in case. I carry a spare everything it seems. I have spare pins that lock the swing away tongue in place, I also have a spare bow roller and the tools it takes to change one out. I even have a spare cap that goes over the hole where you add brake fluid to the brakes on the trailer.
I think BassCat would tell you to use the windshield urethane on that other light and the new one you replace. At least thats what they told me to use when I lost mine. Good fishing.john
The lights can Dislodge, though its not common. The urethane will help some and we think the latch notch was not fully inserted through the hull. The license plate light we dont know about as we think they just bolt that on and its comes set to illuminate down. It does not require much light.
Both my lights were loose in the hole of the fender. They fell out while driving home from the dealer.I just used a waterproof flexible silicon around the rubber grommets to glue them on the fenders. Been holding no problems for 7 months now.
I to carry a spare of everything. Even lock my pin in place for the swing away tongue as it would suck if someone took it
BCB and yall, thanks for the tips. Bowden has a spare brake light for me at their shop. Will pick it up after work tomorrow before hell (downtown Houston) freezes over tomorrow night. William there suggested to use some silicone to get it secure. Time for a slight side-trip to Lowes to get either the urethane glue (if they have it) or the silicone stuff. Thanks again for the light-saving tip. I will have to look into the spare swing-away pins, too. I dont think they would fall out, but you never know what some d@*&$# b@$t @rd is going to do at a remote boat ramp, which I try to avoid…Do BassCat trailers come with an automated remote turd-detector and vaporizer security system?Your Signature …
A couple of long 1/2″ bolts and a nut for each will get you home safe.
