Sounds like a ground wire might be loose on the right rear of the trailer.Judd Lasiter
Fixed it!!! It was a loose connection- but it still doesnt explain why the turn signal worked- its the same path of current???? I checked the power at the tow vehicle connection and had power when the brake was pressed. So I started rechecked my connection at the trailer- plug and unplug- then Wah-Lah- there was power and a brake light.
Hey guys. Last trip out I decided to check my trailer lights, and they were all messed up. First off, the right side front fender amber is always acting funny, but it usually comes on after a few miles down the road. Ok, so I turned on the parking lights and all lights were on except that amber, and the right rear brake light was dim. If I hit the brake, the taillights would not light up, and I think the fenders would get brighter. If I used the hazards, all the lights would flash. I tested with 2 diff vehicles with the same result. I turned the harzards on and wiggled and inspected every piece of wire I could, and couldnt make it change. Any known areas I should be looking into ?? Does it sound like a ground problem ? The white wire that screws into what looks like the trailer actuator, is that the ground for the actuator only ? I plugged a new RR taillight in, and it didnt change.Thanks2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
Most likely the ground doesnt have a good connection, it is the white wire
From the looks of it, the white starts at the plug, and goes straight to the trailer actuator looking part, held on by a screw. Is that the main ground to the trailer ? Its tight.2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
Clean the ball on your hitch first ask me how I know this LOL!!!
I keep some grease on the ball, and havent added any in a while. Ill try that though.2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
That is usually a ground issue and folks dont ground the wire harness on one side or the other. We ground the harness from BCB and thus the coupler tie. Usually to the safety chain or cable. White – groundBlue – reverse or lock out solenoidGreen – RightYellow – LeftBrown – Running lights or tail/clearance. Hope this helps!
I have looked over all the wiring where it goes through the holes in the trailer, and tryed to wiggle the wiring but cant make it change. The white wire starts at the trailer plug, where does it end ? Should I be Ohming out any wires, where would you start BCB ?2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
Have you changed out any lights before this problem or tie down straps? If so make sure that you did not pinch a wire in-between the nut and trailer it will ground out I have done that before as well.
Clearance lights and rear lug bar are often the culprit when they are bolted down. This is indicative of a bad ground. Check the ground on the vehicle as most dont tie the white wire to the frame. You have to check the ground wire on each vehicle for a good ground, then the trailer. It really is quite a simple system.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on April 29th, 2012, 2:45 pm, edited 2 times in total.

I will give it another look. 2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
Could be a fuse in your truck. Check to see if there is power at the brown wire at the plug. If it is a fuse and it blows again, start looking for a possible cut or nick in the brown wire somewhere in the trailer.
It will be related to the brown wires. Those control running lights and a battery direct (power pack) would test these for you. We have seen clearance lights crashed into and go to ground knocking out the vehicle fuse. Also the pigtail itself can go bad inside the molded rubber plug.
Tracked the brown wires and where it branches off to power the fender clearance light was the problem…redid that wire and ground and everything works now.
