Is it possible to set the boat off the trailer in garage? If so, hows the safest way?i need to replace bunks and while Im at it, I really need to wire brush the tabs or possibly replace some of the tabs that holds the bunks on. The current tabs look pretty rough from rust, and Id really love to set the boat off gently, in order to repair the trailer tabs and bunks right … For good.
There is information here somewhere (I have been unable to find the reference) about lifting one side of the boat at a time with a jack and some wood. It does not address removing the boat completely. I did do that once with a 17 foot boat by jacking the stern of the boat up using the pad and a piece of 2 x 12, loosening the bow strap, and pulling it partially off the trailer. I set it on two sections of a tree trunk cut to height and then using the bow hook, a sling, and a come-along to raise the front; pulled the trailer out from under once all the weight was off. It worked very well with no stress on anything…other then my nerves!I look forward to following this thread as my trailer needs a boat-off inspection and associated repairs.
Engine hoist for the front and come-a-long with straps on the rear. You can also use Styrofoam blocks to rest the hull on.But I always found it easier to just rent a stall at a nearby marina for a couple days,,,,,,,
