Hello all ,Just wondering what if anything you are all using as a safety strap or cable on your trailers. This would be the strap/cable that would act as a backup is the winch strap fails. When we bought our 2008 Puma (which was used) the trailer didnt have one. My winch strap has a nick in it and is starting to tear (in process of replacing) which made me think I am going to add one for piece of mind. Thanks,Mike

I made mine out of some 3/8 coated cable, couple S hooks and some cable clamps.

I use plastic coated chain, spring loaded hook for the bow cleat and a spare link that you can screw close to attach the chain to the trailer frame. I have used this on all my boats. I have seen a lot of boat trailers without this added protection. It only takes a second to hook and unhook. You know the old saying about a ounce of prevention.

I saw a tip posted in a fishing mag once on using a turnbuckle from a hardware store. I have hooks on either end and tighten and loosen as needed. Been using it for years and never tow without hoooking it up. Had a buddy driving ahead of me and his winch somehow gave way. That boat was bouncing up and down big time before I got him to stop and tore up his fiberglass. The turnbuckle tip sure would have helped him

Stainless Steel chain, SS turnbuckle attached to the trailer, SS snap attached to the boat eye. Home Depot.
