Trailer Tire Help

Purchased a 2011 Cougar FTD in February that had the Cooper Cobra P215/70R15s on it. These were the original tires from factory. I had my first blow out last Friday. Figured after 5 years it was time so today I changed all 4 tires. I figured these tires were good to last this long and I like the way they look so I purchased 4 new exact tires. I told you this to get to my question:When I got home with the new tires installed i realized they had actually installed the P275/60R15s. I called my “guy” and he said he would replace them for the right ones or I can keep for no extra charge if I like them. My question for you is what size tires are you running? Do you see an advantage or disadvantage to running the bigger tire? Besides me getting used to the bigger look I now have to lower my poles to fit in the garage. Please let me know your experiences! TIA

How much clearance do you have on your fenders now? That would be my first concern.

The clearance is fine. They do stick out a hair which I am concerned may destroy my fender during a blowout.

Stick out past the fenders. Will they throw road junk on side of your rig?

The standard width tire will destroy your fender just fine if the tread comes off. I wouldnt worry about the wider tires.

They are right at 2 inches wider and 1.3 inches taller, so my only concern would be if they rub the inside of the fenders in a turn, or rub the fender edge when hitting a pothole or rough road. I would look under the trailer and make sure you have plenty of clearance between the inside of the tire and the fender, and then jack up each wheel one at a time to simulate bumps and make sure the tires do not hit the fenders. If you dont have any clearance issues after those checks you should be good as that size also has a 500# greater load capacity per tire than the 215s.

I always thought the 60/70 was the height of the tire, not the width, meaning the new tire would actually be shorter than the old ones. The 275/215 would be the width correct???Purchased new 5/4/15Bass Cat Sabre Vision EliteMercury Pro XS 150MotorGuide 75lb Tour EditionHumminbird – Stock (will be changing soon I hope)

I do not have a clue, but I checked the Cooper site for all sizes and specs.

The 275/215 would be the width correct???The 60/70 is the aspect ratio based on the tire width. It is not the same height for every tire (that would make too much sense).
