I have an 09 Cougar FTD and have been having issues with the bearing buddy grease caps and brakes since I bought it this year. I have excessive amounts of slung grease coming from my hubs ( my chrome wheels are now a shade of black). It appears that the cap even though it is in tact is not keeping the grease sealed. Is there better grease caps available? Also I have intermittent problems with my brakes hanging up to the point the rim gets extremely hot. Nearest dealership is 100 miles away and dont think the trailer is under warranty yet as it was purchased in January 2009. Any suggestions on how I can correct these issues. Thanks!

What I did to stop mine from slinging grease was to go my local auto parts store and bought some regular bearing caps. I bought Dorman(brand) 618-503 caps they fit a Ford pickup, no more grease out of the bearingbuddies.

It sounds like your brakes are hanging and heating the end units up. UFP may have a service center closer to you. Check with them at UFP in San Marcos, CA. BCB Service would be glad to help also, and your dealer can intervene as well. Take your pick and sorry for the trouble.Also we do not suggest greasing the bearing buddies, as mentioned.

I had the same issues with my 06 trailer this year. My isssue wound up being a bad actuator. I also replaced all four calipers. bearings and races.

Rookie question: if you dont recommend greasing the hub via the bearing buddies, why install them?The way I understand the system, excess grease will be allowed past the seals in order to keep the pressure down to 3psi. Excessive pressure would lead to seal failure, so slung grease might seem like a nuisance, when it really might be an indication of overgreasing. Just my thought, fwiw.Would like to learn more, so please educate me!

Because everyone thought you were saving money if you just used a dust cap and considered the trailer end units cheap without a built in Bearing buddy lubricator. They leave room for leakage and you blow the rear seals when they pump the cap out. There is no release, just a spring tension. The release is when you blow the seal. BCB
