Ive taken my boat out twice in the past week (because even though its northern IN, the lakes are still open!) to a small electric only lake near my house. Both times, Ive had issues with the winch locking up and slipping, where it either wont turn, so I have to flip the back off switch and pull out a few feet of strap or it will turn but just slip without advancing the strap at all. The last time I actually had to use a ratchet strap I keep in my truck to get the bow eye the last 12″ up to the roller. Any ideas of what the issue might be? Or do I just need to replace it? And if so, will the Fulton XLT in the store fit my 2011 Trailer with step and pole?Thanks!!!2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard
My fulton winch has failed, skipping gears when pressure is applied . I do not winch but a foot at most but heavy boat I suppose . I was thinking of replacing with electric winch . My boat is a 2010 Sabre w 150 opti . Any thoughts on winches ?? Dont mean to highjack the thread is SOMATA but mine is doing same as yours ..
i have a similar issue but mine wont lock up, what i found my issue is the spring for the lock on/off switch, an .84 cent part. i wonder if yours might be the same fix, maybe a part of the spring broke and is forcing it to lockup or slip?http://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and … 69-28.htmldiagram of winch:http://www.etrailer.com/question-29331.htmlLast edited by socalpIII on December 22nd, 2014, 8:29 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I have never used my winch to pull my heavy puma loaded with gear up the trailer using the winch. In my opinion it is not made for that and will eventually fail. If I am even short of the bow hook I will use the outboard to goose it up a bit. I just could not imagine using the winch for all that weight.

I have a new Pantera II ordered through Sherm and I am thinking about putting a Ramp-N-Clamp on it. Looks like a neat addition.DanLast edited by MeanV2 on December 22nd, 2014, 10:28 pm, edited 1 time in total.
From an older threadhttp://basscatowners.yuku.com/reply/171124#reply-171124A lot of us find a winch is needed at times and plenty are available at rated weights but…With step and pole I havent found one that will fitWinch on my trailer is rated at 1400 lbs 1st layer but only 700 full drum?Pretty much guaranteed failure if used for the definition of name
I just replaced my winch because of the same problem. I rarely use my winch to pull my puma up the trailer, but had several teeth broke and it would either lock up or slip. The Fulton xlt will fit.
My previous boat I had issue with winch because the frame bent up from the base, Now I will use OB to assist the winch if needed
Somata the XLT should interchange with what you have. The trailer winch is plenty strong if you winch up in stages by backing the trailer and then winching, repeat until the boat is fully on the trailer. Unfortunately I have had to do this on a couple of boats that broke down over the years and it works very well especially if you back up and wet the bunks first. I have also launched my PIII on a few electric only lakes and used the same system without fail, it just takes a little longer especially when you are by yourself.
Think about this model. So nice to have the extra power of the two speed… Ill never go without this feature even if I dont think I will need it much….http://www.fultonperformance.com/produc … 4Da3pBWz4= … DwaynePractice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO
