Transducer mounts weak

Ok Guys, I have two Lowrance Elite 7s. Typical front deck mount with transducer on my Fortrex with a transducer saver and it works like a charm. The Console Unit which is same except Chartplotter w/ GPS and the cable runs to back of transom and is mounted just flush with the bottom of the boat on the right (Driver Side). I have already broke and replaced one plastic arm ($30.00) that slides into the transducer and mounts to back of transom…. This morning I was running 65 mph on GPS and was running behind another boat that pinched me off and I had to cut across his wake, and when I did I broke the mount AGAIN!! This is about the sorryest flimsiest junk for a mount, I ever seen. My Question is…. Why does it even have to be down skimming the water?? Can I mount it up farther so it will be safe at higher speeds or if something would be in the water. And most importantly…. What do you guys do???… For transducer mounting in the back for console unit?? This is a poor design for a transducer mount, and getting in touch with Lowrance is a joke!!

Have you thought about the shoot-thru hull puck. Got it on mine with a y- cable and works perfect.

Ive thought about it, but always heard they werent near as clear and defined as what I have, but definitely would solve the problem. Why, or whats the Y-cable for?

I have a surface mounted transducer for the Side Image and the shoot-thru that picks up once I get on plane. Works good and the images are real clear on mine. Thru hull will pick up at 65 mph with no problems. the y-cable connects the surface mounted transducer and the thru hull together and the single end of thee cable connects to your fishfinder. Thanks BCB, I do have a transducer saver on trolling motor, but as far as I know or have seen, there isnt one available for the transom to fit the Elite models.

Lowrance doesnt offer a Y cable. That is a Humminbird setup. If youre console unit has side imaging, it cannot be mounted inside, otherwise, mounting inside would be the best option. If it is mounted correctly, you will not loose much in the way of sensistivity (unless youre fishing 300 water off the coast). What you loose at the current setting, you can adjust back with the unit. Mounting higher on the transom will work, but will not allow it to read at speeds or fast idle since it will take the transducer out of the water.JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

For a console unit. I have always shot true the hull. Though mine is the puck style with the external temp s3nsor. Ive run both ways.as John said if mounted properly you will not even notice the difference. My lss tranducer I use the spring back mount by tss. 8f you bump something it will spring up but bounces right back.
