Since this is a new boat, we would suggest a trip to the dealer, or at least a conversation with them. Not sure if the units are BCB mounted or dealership mounted, so we can not answer till we know. Front unit sounds like a keel protector might be blocking the signal. Rear unit sounds like a different issue? Though we are blind stabbing at your issue?
Problem is corrected. Had to put front transducer on trolling motor. Dealer moved rear twice and it still would not work over about 45 when the engine was trimmed. I checked the bottom closely and found a slight ridge running side to side on the center pad of the boat about 2 inches from the rear. I block sanded this area and then buffed it—-now the transducer reads at WOT.
2013 Sabre FTD. Where does BassCat place the the depth transducer, and how is it secured?
Nivek; According to Humminbird, you can not put a side imaging transducer on the inside of the hull. It must be mounted on the transom or on the trolling motor………….Mike
correct, it must be outside the hull to function, and the side imaging transducer will not function at speeds either. They usually work best around 3.5 to 4.5 MPH from our experience. They have a Y cable that allows the internal transducer in a puck style to function as long as you do not have too much air on the hull. They usually work up to 50 MPH or better. BCB
Thanks guys for your help. I checked the humminbird site and I found the y cable and it said it was to be used in conjunction with a dual beam transducer. Is that what is installed on my 05 pantera ? Any input is always great
What original brand and model unit did you have at the console?britt
Ive seen pictures of guys that mounted the transducer to their jack plate.
The current model in my console is a lowrance m 56 it is stock finder and transducer I just bought the boat.
You will probably have to have a 2d internal puck transducer placed. You will then Y cable that and the SI transducer, then plug that into the SI unit. This will allow the 2d sonar to read while on plane and the SI will read while at idle type speeds along with the 2d. I have had 2 SI units, one I installed the transducer with a bolt through the side of the Jack plate in and existing hole. The transducer was inside the jack plate. Mine now is some how mounted to the inside of the jackplate on the plate that actually attaches to the stern of the boat itself. I am not sure how BCB mounts these plastic brackets to the Jackplate. I can email you pictures if you havent seen any.britt
If you could send pictures that would be great helps me to see things.
email addy?
Thanks for the help
There is a 6″ x 6″ rear section that is one part and the transducer will shoot through at the very rear of the pad sump area, drain tube.
Almost certainly the primary transducer is mounted in the back of the bilge using epoxy. “shoot through hull” approach to give the best reading at speed. Cant do that with side-imaging however, most mount those off of the jack plate, which means they dont work very well at speed. However, if you buy the Humminbird lake master maps SD card, you get such accuracy on the depth that you can easily use just the chart view and be perfectly safe depth-wise.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
