need to replace transom, flooring and stringers while were at it in my pantera 2. 94 model. ball park figure what am i looking at. just trying to figure if i can justify the cost or just get rid of the boat, and if i do get rid of it, how? no one is gonna buy a bass boat that has transom flex and trading it in isnt an option in my area. any advice would be helpful. just looking for typical price on the repairs, not an official quote as im sure i would actually have to bring the boat in for an exact quote. thought about doing that job myself, till i looked at it and found that the top cap and hull seem to be glassed together, making separation nearly impossible.
Boats his age tend to be in one of two conditions. Either clean well cared for, or eventually in need of repair. The level of repair is what you need to determine. Is the transom out or can you drill and cast a transom inside it to clear up the flex with the pourable fillers. A new transom is possible and a floor also. We seldom see stringers gone in any boat we have had apart.
well the stingers im not sure about. as far as pourable fillers. i suppose that is possible. it has about 1/8th inch of transom flex. that is approximate of course. i replaced the floor after i bought the boat, but i didnt replace it the “right” way. i cut out the floor area and replaced it with marine grade plywood and then glassed it in to the wood that was still good. about 90 percent of the floor rot was in the area of the rear drain. now i know that 1/8 inch transom flex isnt a whole lot, but i would like to have it fixed before it becomes a major issue. as far as boat condition, yeah, mine falls into the second catagory of boats that werent taken care of at all. but there is not much i can do about how the previous owner cared for the boat other than trying to fix what i can. oh yeah, by the way, there is some continuity between transom tiedown points.with regard to your response though, does bcb do the pourable transom fillers and if so, ball park what am i looking at as far as cost. thanks for the response
We dont and 1/8″ of flex is minimal.
Gonna have to get the boat to someone like Garry or Bobby to determine the extent of repair needed. Then go from there. I had mine replaced in my 90 PII, and the boat is still running strong.Good luck, D.
dbasket, not trying to get in your business, buy do you remember what the cost was for the transom replacement? im just trying to get some ball park figures together to determine if its worth putting the money into or would i just be better off parting the boat out and scrapping the hull.
Mine was total transformation, very complicated, and i had already upgraded engine, etc,,,,,,thus the investment was worth every penny.Get with the pros and get their opinion first, then decide.
this is probably gonna be a dumb question, but i gotta ask. who are gary and bobby? im assuming by your previous post that they are fibergalss repair experts. how would i contact them?
Call the factory and ask for service, they can get you hooked up. 870-481-5135
We really dont think your prepared to spend the money it would cost for one of them to repair it. While it may be your intended direction, we also assumed from your post you were more inquiring as to how one would go about the repair. They are not going to be much help there and a full repair is expensive. The amount of flex you indicated has many ways to address it that are much more financially feasible, unless you are after a cherry clean rig being updated.
