Transom Transducer Placement

The new Lowrance is on the way. Can anybody send me some pics of their transducer mounted on the transom? I need to see where its mounted and where you ran you cable into the boat. Skimmer transducer my the way. BCC, The only skimmer type ive used i actually mounted on the bottom of the jackplate. Of course it wouldnt work at speed, but idling it did great. I just didnt want to drill holes in my hull ! Just an option, D.

Im a total rookie but Id put that sucker in the sump anyway- I believe you can do it with a skimmer. The thought of “intentional” holes in my boat makes me weak in the knees. Ive installed a shoot through 2 weeks ago(that actually works) and a pos bottomline redo about 2 years ago. Id do the Mike Whitten technique with a skimmer- Take plummers putty and make a well that is an inch or so high and will surround your skimmer Fill with epoxy Place transducer in well with epoxy Put weight on top of transducer overnight- I used a crowbar that pressed on the ducer and rests against the latch edge Rest back and shoulder overnight after doing the above without gluing yourself to the top cap Remove putty next am Hope it works Would love to do silicone but I could never get it air free. Would be nice to do silicone first and make sure signals are good. Something tells me silicone would be easier to get out if the fit wasnt right.C.O.D. Jr. III

Thanks Ward, You think the skimmer will shoot threw the hull? I was wondering about that. Maybe I should just get a transducer made for that. Ive got an Eagle transducer there now. I wonder if it would work with the lowrance? I dont feel good about holes in my baby either. BCC

Yes I agree with Ward, Mike lays it oug good but add this, take the skimmer and sand the bottom plastic curve more flat before installing it will help with holding and I believe better picture

The skimmer will work shot thru the hull but the puck is easier to install because it is not as flat on the top to press against like ward said above. Judd Lasiter

You can call Lowrance and exchange the skimmer for a puck style transducer…thats what I did and put it in the sump. You dont have to worry about it not working because of stumps, etc. hitting it. ( not to mention puttin holes in a perfectly good boat) Good luck in whatever you decide.

Let me know if I can help Gary. Would be more than glad to. You are better off mounting that thing in your boat and shooting it thru the hull. Just attach the old cable to the new and pull it thru when you pull the old one out. If you need a fish tape I have one of those also. Waiting on the weather to break and also trying to take care of a little business right now. Hopefully I will get the chance to go next month and even more so, make the OI !!!
