Triangular Wells

A previous post comparing the Puma & Cougar mentioned the new triangle live-well shape. At first this sounds really strange, but knowing BCBs propensity for innovation, Im guessing it will soon become an industry standard. Still, it seems odd. Are we speaking of just the lid shape or the entire well? How does this add 10 gal to the capacity..are they deeper? Assuming the entire well is triangular, is it just anticipated that fish will naturally orient themselves with tails to the small corner and heads to the widest part? Id love to hear the ins and outs of this design…

I had a chance to look at the new wells and I must say I like the old ones better. I like the big rectangular livewells…..hopefully I can fill them up with fish! But I would like to hear more on the design of the triangular wells too.

It looks like the triangular wells are only on the 08 Cougar FTD. I think the Puma and the Cougar Advantage have the rectangle lids….

They are triangular, not just the lids. I dont think it adds 10 gallons, I would be really shocked because they dont look that much bigger. I would say Judd Lasiter Edit – eknapp is correct on the 08 FTD is the only boat with this livewell design.

Yes, it does add ten (10) gallons to the capacity because of the design. We know it does not look like that much, mostly because of the small openings, though it is 5 gallons per side. The triangle shape gave us the capacity, and a 15″ fish can go in the well sideways now, where they could not on a square well design as they are all around 12″ wide. The difference is in many areas in this design. BCB

BCB I guess I need to quit filling them to the overflow…that is 85lbs extra weight you are throwing at us and us fat guys need all the help we can get keeping the boat weight down Sorry about that misinformation…youre right it dont look like 10, I wouldve lost a ton of money on that bet. Does that make the total capacity close to 36 gallons of water to to the overflow? I am asking so I mix my peroxide properly. BCB, The capacity is more, but what is the length difference? It would be nice if the new design incorporated extra length for the larger fish, so they dont have to distort sideways.
