Trick for removing the radio?

What is the trick to removing the radio? The face plate came off and the radio is loose. I never use the radio so I just want to remove it. It is in a 2010 Puma and is mounted in a box under the console. Ive tried unsuccessfully to pull it through the front of the box. Is there a way to remove the plastic front (the part w/ the door)? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I am guessing here but I think you have to remove the box it is mounted in, if it is a standard under dash mount.

Open face plate door should be 6-8 square head screws, thats how it is on mine

Muddog – I looked for screws before I posted. Do you have to pop off covers to expose the screws? Thanks.

Not knowing which radio makes an explanation long. You should be able to look behind the dash and figure out what is retaining it. Newer radios are all Sony 910 through 2015.

BCB – I wish is was as simple as looking behind the dash. But mine is 2010 model with the sea worthy sea-2500 marine CD player mounted in a box under the console. I cannot access the back of the radio without removing it from that box. What is the process for removing it from said box?

Ive got a radio in another boat that is installed similar to a car radio. Theres a locking device that the radio snaps into when push into the box that holds the radio. The only way to remove the radio is with a special type key that slides in from the front of radio and disconnects this locking system, then the radio pulls out from the front. If you have an audio shop close I would have them look at it, they might have the tool to get it out. Hope this helps.Murph

Murph – Thanks. I watched some of the you tube videos on removing car radios. Knowing if the black cover on the box was removable would have helped for it seems like it would be an easier job if it was. Assuming that it isnt I simply manhandled it until I forced it out of the the hole. There has to be a simpler trick to it. I bent the heck out of the metal casing which is what I was trying to avoid. Ill have to get a replacement casing if I decide to put the radio back in. Perhaps when I sell her. Until then a radio isnt needed. Thanks all for the suggestions. The stereo is out.

The ProSpec Sea Worthy is a mid grade stereo and the metal case pops in with the tabs holding it as you learned. Some models like this use a set of nuts on the knob stems to hold them in the case face also. Youve figured it out and sorry one of us from the factory was not more help.
