Fished toledo bend last weekend and it down poured on me for about 8 hours after the rain slacked up my trim kept kicking on trimming my motor up out the water constantly the only way to stop it was to hit the front deck trim button this is on an 05 pantera classic any suggestions on this?

I had an old XR6 Merc 150 do that to me years ago and it was the trim switch on the side of the motor. Started doing it during a rain also. Put a new switch on it and all was good. Strange that mine started in the rain though cause that switch gets wet everytime i shut downLast edited by Mainliner61 on March 3rd, 2015, 6:35 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Your trim switches at the bow are suspect The rubber covered button that you were activating is the likely culprit. One of them is shorted by water intrusion. It will likely dry out if stored indoors but the issue will come up again in the rain. Examine the covers on the switches. One may be torn. Neither the switches nor the covers are expensive so you could just replace them. Likely that you just have a bad cover. BCB sellsem.

Try taking off the front trim switch and letting it dry out. Ghost trim problems like that are often traceable to moisture in the bow switch.

Thanks guys I was hoping it was just the trim buttons just replaced my trim motor last week was hoping I didnt get a bad one or something like that

Just checked on bass cat the switches are $7 a piece think Ill go ahead and replace both to be safe cheap fix for a problem that put a huge damper on my trip

Often it is the cowling switch so chek that also. Activating full power on any switch can clear moisture and make the switch quit temporarily.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago on my Puma FTD and it was the rubber boot on the switch at the bow was split and allowed water to get in after it dried out it worked but I got a new switch from parts and the problem was solved I carry a spare in the boat now so I can change out on the water if it happens again. Mine did it to me last time fishing, but it was running in the trim down position. I got up and pushed the trim switch up and down on the engine cowl itself. It stopped right away. Guess moisture got into it.
