trim issue is this a fix at home issue?

Assuming this is the trim switch and sounds like it, my 2002 Classic had the up switch go out early this year and since I was replacing the one went ahead and replaced the down to – they are not expensive in the $15 ea. range. I had a mechanic do it as I was on my first trip out and couldnt get boat off trailer, took to a boat dealer I knew from before not far from ramp, he replaced both and charged me 1/4 hr. shop time labor. Took him a lot longer than that start to finish as he was looking for something else first…

If you suspect the trim swirch on the throttle/gear shift try the one on the bow or the one on the motor. If both of these work the same its probably the trim relay.Last edited by spbait on November 11th, 2012, 5:19 pm, edited 1 time in total.

If the trim works the same using either switch your problem is most likely the trim relay. There are two of these , one for up and one for down trim. They are located under the engine cowling and are not difficult to replace.
