Trolling Motor battery Hook-up

I am in need of a little help with hook-up at the batteries for my trolling motor. First and Foremost–I absolutely love my 2001 PIII. Now my problem. The trolling motor is a Motorguide 107 lb. 36 volt. Same motor from factory. I have somehow gotten my wires mixed at the batteries. I have a 3 battery system (2 for trolling motor & 1 for crank battery). There are 4 wires coming from the front back to the batteries. The first pair are red (hot) and black (ground). These pair are marked with a white tag on each with a #1 on tag. I have these hooked up as a 24 volt system. Red on first battery and black on second battery with a jumper between the 2 batteries. Now, I have a second pair, white (hot) and black (ground) with white tags as well, marked #2 on each. I am presuming these need to be hooked to the crank battery, as I have attempted to connect to the trolling motor batteries (with a few sparks flying, I might add) Any advise would be very helpful. Just a quick note. Thank you BCB for your help the day before the OI. I experienced a problem with my dash and the gentleman at the factory was very helpful and got my boat back in order and my son and I went back to fishing. Again, thank you BCB for ALL you and your people do.

The wires were originally labeled #1 and #2. The #1 wires should be on the cranking battery negative and one of the trolling motor battery positives. There should be a jumper wire with a breaker between the positive on the cranking battery and the negative on the trolling battery with the red #1 positive on it. The #2 wires should be strictly on the one lone trolling motor battery. If the cranking battery is not the lower ground source for the trolling system you will have electrolysis on the engine, troller, jack plate and more.

Thank you BCB. I will redo my wiring tomorrow, as I know i have it wrong per your instructions. This is why so many BCB owners are very proud of their boats. Not just the quality of the product, but the quality of the people behind the product. Thank you for such a quick response, I can now stop pounding my head against the wall.

BassCat,Thats interesting. I do not doubt what you are saying but Ive never seen a boat wired with the cranking batter as part of the 24 volt circuit. It doesnt matter because each battery is a 12 volt supply but I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of some documentation about that. Im interested in the physics of why being attached to the ground side of the 24 volt circuit makes a difference. From what I remember of the trolling motor plug that attaches to the trolling motor, the 12 volt circuit positive is connected to the 24 volt circuit negative which would put the cranking battery as the middle battery in the series creating the 36 volt circuit. I also wonder if by connecting the cranking battery that way does it somehow lessen interference from the trolling motor with the depth finders? Let me know what you have on this, Id love to research this.Thanks,Mike

There is a jumper in the plug on this model. Over time in years, there are several ways to wire and ways they transport power to the bow on BCB models. We have technicians manuals which work well for this. BCB
