I have a MG Tour 82, propack 3 charger, and Interstate deep cycle SRM-27 where installed by the dealer when I bought the boat new about a year and half ago. I fished yesterday in a moderate wind and by noon was having to run on high just to move at a snails pace. Got home and plugged the charger in, within 5 minutes one battery was charged and the other was charged in 1/2 hour. Any ideas why it would recharge so fast and runout so soon? It was plugged in all night and fully charged before I left.

First check the water, which we assume you already did. The try a manual charge to boost the batteries, then charge them with the on board charger. Though if they continue to run down it may be the batteries. BCB

I had the same problem and found out it was the fluid level. Leveled out the cells in both batteries and hooked them up to a manual charger that pulls it thru a conditioning cycle to eliminate sulfation. To clean up the plates takes at least 10amps to each battery. Theyre performing like new – and I make sure I check the fluid level every month now.

I have the same exact setup. The intial set of batteries lasted right at twelve months, I check my water each month and add disitlled water with a turkey baster when needed. Intersate replaced the first set under warranty. I have had that set since March, so far so good. When these go Ill replace them with Deka AGMs.

The group 29s will hold up better than the 27s, but still about every 18months i repalce them all. Still the weakest link in the boat, but i use mine alot. D.

Thanks everyone, I will double check the water and manual charge them. I would of prefered 29s or larger but this what the dealer installed when I bought the boat. What brand and size of trolling batterys does BCB or everyone else prefer?
