I am considering replacing my Motor Guide TR 109 with a minn kota to take advantage of the GPS interface capabilities of my Humminbird electronics. What is the most popular unit being used by you folks that provides the spot lock etc. features? Shaft length? Also has anyone done this that could provide insight into the removal/installation? Thanks in advance.

Its easiest if you have the cutout under your trolling motor pedal, if not you can take off the plate where your troller plug is and reach in to undo the old bolts. If you get a MinnKota you can use the same holes by taking the side plates off and exposing more mounting holes. Talk to Jones Trolling Motor about the options, but if you want to navigate with the contour lines on your Bird you need the I Pilot Link model. The shaft length depends on if you fish the big waves, I got the 52 shaft for big water, you could probably get by with the 45″ if youre not on Erie or the equivalent.

Pull the side plates and it will bolt right up. Get the mounting plates from BCB.

For BCB. Which model is used more often on the factory rigged boats- ulterra, terrova or ultrex. Mounting Plates???

You see more factory rigged boats with the bowmount trolling motors such as Tour, Maxxum, or the Fortrex. If youre looking for the GPS model for spotlock, the Ultrex is what you would want to look at. Ive mounted this motor on a couple of Basscats without problems. If youre using the Humminbirds, the Ipilot link (as stated above) is the model youre looking for. John just shipped me the New Ultrex IPilot Link thats going to be talking to a new Helix 10….Hes was very heplful in making my choices!!Ship time was less than a week to my door!
