Trolling motor debate cable vs remote

I am going to install a new 24v to my P3 not sure what I want.

I have used both types in the past (I assume you mean cable steering vs electric steering)? I didnt like the electric steering. My main complaint was WAY too slow. I was fishing on Lay in a pretty good current, saw a stump coming up in front of me and could not get the thing to turn quick enough to avoid it. Which solved my problem as it bent the shaft pretty well (this was before we began to see composite shafts and really useful spring-loaded impact absorption.They may or may not have gotten better in the past 10 years or so, but I have stuck with cables ever since that event and have not had any problems. I like the flexibility of the wiring without the cables, or even a wireless control, but not if it takes forever to turn the thing around.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

I have never used the electric remote so Thats exactly why I asked for this I appreciate your opinion makes me want to go back with cable

Bass fishermen generally do not like the electric steer because of the lack of immediate response. Thats exactly why MK developed the Ultrex, which is cable steer but with spot lock. All of the previous motors with spot lock were electric steer.

Did they put the steering motor in the foot pedal? Or in the same place as always, just with a cable override? That sounds like something that would be OK for spot lock. I just dont like the stiff steering cables that get pulled on every time I stop and then go. But they seem to be able to survive that just fine. My dad bought the first one I ever saw somewhere in the late 80s. He bought it because my mom would complain about him fishing all the choice spots from the front. He got one of those, made a longer cable, and fished / steered from the back. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

Fished with my brother last week in a tourney. He had a new ultrex installed by John Jones of Jones trolling motor service. If you have only fished cable… wow! If you fished electric/remote years ago… oh man! This MK is the real deal. Well if youre sticking with cable, better get the MK Maxxum 80. I changed out from a MG Tour to an MK in 2007 on my 1996 Eyra and never looked back. If you fish a lot of grass, timber, the MK is the best. Open water, a lot of guys prefer the MG. Just some things to consider as well. If your keeping our rig go Ultrex, then if your trading it within 24 months go least expensive. Save the money on a new rig if your ever thinking of trading up.
