TROLLING MOTOR ELECTRICAL ADVICE NEEDED

I have a big river jon, set up for fishing, hunting, etc. The T/M I have is an OMC older style 12v/24v model hand control. I have 4 wires coming from my two batteries to the plug and then the T/M has three wires going from the plug to the T/M. Here is my dilema. I want to install a foot switch on the deck so I dont have to turn the T/M on and off by hand every few seconds. How do I do this considering I have 3 wires going to the T/M? Is there a special foot switch designed for this application?

The first thing that came to mind is switch the Neg wire with a standard foot switch. This would let the switch work for ether 12 or 24. Maybe someone else may have a better idea nor have I done this but should work.

Place the foot switch in series with the negative lead. If you want a switch on either side of the deck; wire them in parallel and then in series with the negative lead. Make sure the switch has at least 30 or 40 A rating and you use good – low resistance connections
