I have an 08 Classic and love the boat with the exception of the trolling motor placement. I find that Im always stepping on the trim switches and when the wind blows and it gets a bit choppy i have almost fallen off the front deck more than once. If i have the butt seat in there is virtually no room and its quite tricky to move around the seat towards the back of the boat. Does anyone have similar problems? Does anyone have any suggestions? Does BCB think of changing the tm placement on future models? Thx
I have an 04 classic and it took myself awhile to get use to how tight the front deck is. It can be very tricky to move around the seat. I only use the seat when the wind blows or when my back gets tried. What I would like to see is the pro-butt seat move back about 6 inches. My suggestions would be to make sure you know how much space you and adjust yourself to it. I have and works for me. Bob
Bass Cat places that foot pedal forward to give you every advantage possible to have control of your next cast, flip, pitch, etc. In addition, that trolling motor is placed closer to center as possible to give better control of the boat with the troller, especially while backing. I would bet that after some time in the boat, youll get accustomed to the switch placement and youll think its the next best thing to sliced bread!
The trick for moving around the butt seat is to use the seat itself as a pivot. We do have a farther forwards location on the butt seats. And there are some that could use it back a few inches, though most will adjust as is. It is a matter of getting used to it, and not stepping around the seat itself. Just sit on it and spin around. Reverse to go to the bow. BCB
I felt awkward at first when I bought my 2002 classic. The troller pedal is very forward, and I felt like I was going to fall out of the boat. But, after several fishing trips, I got used to it and I really like it now. I feel like there is nothing in my way when Im trying to cast off the front of the boat. I dont have to worry about hitting the trolling motor head or anything while casting. I have grown to like the forward placement of the troller, and I think most agree after using the troller on several trips. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
I have adapted to the placement of the seat location fairly quick but still have problems with stepping on the trim and ACC switch on my Sabre. My only real complaint is the location of the depthfinder. I wish there was an insert that could be placed in that well to raise the finder and move it more forward. I feel like Im constantly looking down towards my feet in order to see the graph. I know I can use a Ram mount and that would help because I did have one on my previous boat (1999 PIII) but thats my only issue with the front design of the cats. As for pitchin and flippin the deck layout works fantastic for that !
What is the front deck space on the Pantera iv and the Cougar Advantage as compared to the Classic? Thx
You do get used to it but I would also vote for 4 to 6″ back. It helps to keep the seat lower than you normally would and be closer to sitting on it rather than leaning on it.Last edited by Fishspanker on August 10th, 2008, 9:40 pm, edited 1 time in total.
A second pin location is an option in production. It is not able to go under carpet after production. BCB
What is the front deck space on the Pantera iv and the Cougar Advantage as compared to the Classic? The P4 and Cougar both have the stability of an aircraft carrier ! I dont use a butt seat anymore, and im a big guy not so light on my feet, and defiantely not nimble ! The fishing platform of the p4/ Cougar / Puma is a totally different feel from the Classic, P2, etc,,,, That youd expect from the weight and beam of the larger rigs. The Classic / P2 are great boats, and will suit most anglers very well, but us older guys like a stable platform to fall on !
