trolling motor shaft length recommendation

I am thinking about replacing my trolling motor on my 06 Cougar FTD and was wondering to go with a 47 or 52 inch shaft length ?? I read that the cougar bow sits higher in the water and wondered if any other owners has replaced theirs with which one ?? . I thought I would ask here before investing in a new one , I appreciate any information anyone could offer .

We would make a decision based on your present user pattern and existing shaft length. Why change if what you have is working? If it’s not then change to what does.

Based on your mention that the Cougar bow sits higher in the water, a 52-inch shaft length could potentially be a better choice.

If you’re not fishing big water I wouldn’t switch, I’m running a Cougar and don’t think it sits very bow high compared to other Cats.

The rod storage box lid won’t open freely with a 52. The trolling motor has to be deployed if you want that lid to open 100%. If you don’t fish big water in big waves you likely don’t need a 52 and why try and fix what isn’t broke. A cougar ftd is not bow high.
