I was fishing a tournament today, and the breaker kept tripping killing my trolling motor (I was not fishing in grass, just open water). Id go back and reset the breaker and it would work fine. Eventually the breaker got to the point where the trip button would not stay engaged, and the motor would not work at all. I thought I just had a bad breaker, but I tried to bypass the breaker and the motor still wouldnt work.Over the past couple of weeks, the breaker tripped a couple of times while running on the highest setting, and Id reset it and it would be good.Motor is a 3 year old 82# MK Fortrex. Any ideas? Thanks you.

Update. It started working this morning. Im going to replace the breakers and clean all of the connections and see if that works. Thanks.

Sounds like youre on the right track. I think youll find a wiring issue between the battery and the plug, possibly in the trolling motor plug itself.Jones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

John is on track with cleaning, though you indicated the breakers were replaced. The trolling motor receptacle and plug is a good place to look also. The next item is the trolling motor itself as if you turned the propeller and have a burned spot on the armature, then the dead spot was jumped by the brushes and it will run till it lands on that burned contact again.

I would wager the breakers are bad. Ive had several of them go bad in two of my BassCats. I keep 3 or 4 extra new ones of each size in the boat…just in case.

I take the plug out of the equation all together. I use 100amp lugs with set screws. It has less resistance and allows me to run on full power longer. Its like the first thing I do to my boat!
