Each brand has positives and negatives, I was wanting to hear from some of the owners of these trolling motors to see which they prefer. I have a MG TR70 FB Digital 45″ shaft. It is a great motor no problems but seems heavy pulling it in and out all day long and noisy on high with some vibration. Even though if the TRM is on high the waves are covering up some of the noise. Appreciate the advice. Which trolling motors would be best in the 36 V Models between MK & MG?
I was a MG guy for 15yrs now I have a MK 101, even on the slowest speed it cuts through weeds without even thinking about it!!!! MK all the way!!!!! lift assist is great!!!
Thanx for the input
A touchy subject. Each person on here has had a variety of experiences. Some are diehard MG guys who would swear the MG is the greatest thing ever. Some are MK guys who feel the same way. Some are crossovers, people who switched for a variety of reasons. Both are very good, youve run MG for a while…get what you have confidence in. I have gone to MK at present, after having MG on my last couple of Cats, with zero problems. Just wanted something different and new to me. Good luck!96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
I have heard good and bad on both brands. The reason I went with the MG tour edition is because it has an aluminum foot pedal and head. Im a Little tough on my trolling motors and have been known to break the plastic foot pedal. of course weighing 200 and plenty might also have something to do with it.LOL
I am like txmrbass…I am about 260 these dys and i like the metal foot control as well as the stiffness of the shaft. I have a TR82 on my Cat. I have over 500 hrs on the boat/Motor so there is no telling how much time I have on the TM…I have replaced the cables 1 time….be sure that your prop nut is tight on the TM I have found that will reduce a lot of the vibration as well as keeping the prop free of nicks…esp when on high.. Trolling motors are a matter of preference. Pick the one you want and go with it. There are problems with both brands at an almost equal pace today. We have seen some issues to resolve on some of the newer designs. Though the proven models with motor heads and proven parts are not a problem with either brand. The Minn Kota does go through thick weeds easier. Though otherwise it is up to you. BCB

BTW, I am in the 300+ lbs class, so check with me when you guys “catch up”96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Why hasnt MG come up with something like the “lift assist” on the MK
If you will remember MG had the first lift assist. It would deploy itself and load itself with the push of a button. Reliability of that function just wasnt there and it hasnt been around for 5 yrs. or more. Truth be known, MG doesnt need lift assist since it is much lighter than a MK. Even w/ lift assist, the MK is still seems bulky and heavy to me. My opinion though!
