Ok guys, I have been out many times this year already with no problems. about a month or so back while at the lake she was slow coming out of the hole. I then eased into the accelerator and then no problems after that. went out several times after that and no problems. Then just a few days ago was out and my brother n law was with me, fuel full, full gear and two fishermen, she done it again not wanting to come out of the hole. again eased into it and after that no problems. I have a 2004 Cougar with Mercury 250 ProXS. Anyone have any suggestions.

My 06 CougarFTD/225Opti, was very slow coming out of the hole with two people(big people ), full tanks, livewells full, etc. If I was running light, it was fine. Not had my 09 loaded down yet. Ill find out at Ky Lake this weekend as it will be loaded down.

the top end speed is down a bit, but only a couple mph. the first time tis happened i was the only person in the boat. talk to my local marice service center and was told it may be a CDM going out.

Could you have a bad coil? Its been a problem I have heard with the Pro XS. I know it affects top end, not sure about hole shot.britt

I knew before I saw what type of motor you had this was a mercury pro 250 XS which means coil problem. This motor has been nothing but problems for me with two bad coils in a year. I have the “new”ones now so hopefully no more problems but I can say no more mercs for me. I will go back to yammies first chance I get.

I think you need to take your rig to a good Mercury dealer and let them run their computer on it and see what the problrm is. No way any one can troubleshoot these motors without the right test gear.
