TROUBLE WITH DEPTH FINDER

Lowrance X135 on Bow and LMS-480 in Dash arent working properly(Shoot Thru hull mount). Both read 60 ft when powered up , sitting on the trailer or in the water. Then both read erractic. Indicating depths sometimes 1100 ft,335ft etc. Records no bottom at all! Temp is fine with both record comparable temps. Gps seems fine as well. This weekend was the first time the boat has been in the water since September. Any help would be appreciated. Get in touch with Lowrance and try getting the Master Reset codes for the units. There are no other help aids for this we are aware of. BCB

I have the same exact units in my 2002 classic. Ive had some similar problems with my units. I realized that my problems were coming from having both units on at the same time. When i began turning off one of the units, the problems stopped. On my console unit (LMS 480), I go to sonar menu and select “stop graph”. This will stop the sonar from interferring with the bow unit, but will also keep your GPS signal intact all the time. Then “start graph” before going on my next run. It really doesnt bother me as much now that Im in the habit of turning off the console graph. Hope that helps. Oh, if it matters, both my transducers are skimmers mounted outside the boat. Thanks BCB and Ken. Ive spoken with Lowrance and BCB(Scott) today. Linda gave me the sequence for a soft and master reset. Ill give it a try. Kinda nervous Sunday on the Alabama River with no bottom machine.Last edited by AlabamaCat on February 11th, 2008, 8:56 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Master reset didnt help. Lowrance is sending a transducer to mount to trolling motor. Can I at least rule out the transducers by connecting the cable to the sonar port on both units? BCB do you have a schematic for the wiring terminal. Voltage on GPS reads 13.7 V is this normally an accurate read?

Hmm? Yes that is high without a charger connected and does sound like a depth finder issue if that is where the Voltage is reading that high? BCB

If your batteries are fresh (new) figure 2.2 volts per cell X 6 cells =13.2 nominal battery voltage. If you checked the display immediately after a charge it could read 13.7v. Wait a few hours after the battery charger has been disconnected and check again…

4Bassin your right on. Immediately after charge it read 13.7 24hrs later voltage on Lms 480 = 12.6 v. Takin it to the dealer. The Bow has never worked from the day I got the boat. Started out with X-125. Made the trip back to the dealer they replaced it with X135. First trip to the river this weeend and neither bow or console works. Boat has less than 10 hrs on it.
