Guys,I want to hear from you Cat owners who tow with a 2007 or newer Tundra with a 5.7. Im looking for what kind of mileage you are getting towing your Cat and how well you like your truck. Im not interested in what Ford, Dodge or Chevs are getting, just the Tundra. Thanks!Merc200
I tow my Cougar FTD with a 2007 Tundra Limited extended cab w/ 5.7 engine………get 12 1/2 to 13 mpg if I keep it around 65 to 70 mph and the terrain is not too hilly. I rarely get over 70 mph , but gas mileage suffers if I do. 75 to 80 will drop it to about 10 mpg.Hope this helps a littleDon
My buddy has one but pulls a 21 ft. Triton and on average 9-10 mpg. They are strong trucks but definitely lacking in gas mileage.
We are getting 13-14 mpg at 55-60 mph when the terrain is prettly flat. Going to Guntersville for SEBGOG in hilly terrain it was more like 10-12 mpg at 65-70 mph. As far as the truck, the family loves the crew cab. The back seat has enough room for a good size adult to be comfortable. I wish the mileage was a little better. Hope this helps. For a fair comparison, I am pulling a PII with a tandem axle trailer.
I let my buddy pull my Cougar FTD to falcon last month with his 09 Crew Max. Never Again !!!! I wanted one up until that trip, I love the truck it is very roomy and comfortable but 8.5 to 9 MPG for 600 miles not again.
I tow my 06 Puma with a 2010 Tundra Double Cab with the 4.6L and I average 12.4-14.5 MPG up to 72 MPH towing all over New England. So dont discount the smaller V8. Not Towing it gets 19-21 on the highway and 14 city. Now if I tow with my foot in it! it gets 9-10 so I drive it easy when towing.
I have 60k on my 07 Tundra CrewMax, apprx 55k of that pulling a boat. I tow apprx 350-400 miles per week. During the summer, I drag my inboard ski boat (5150lbs for boat and trailer), get 11.7mpg driving 70-75mph. Once the fall comes, I pull my Cougar quite a bit till summer arrive. The Tundra gets 12.7 to 13.1 pulling the Cougar. Just pulled the Cougar to Table Rock last weekend with a buddy pulling his Puma behind his Chevy 1500 / 5.3L. He got 0.4mpg better than I did over the 250 miles, but he was dragging @ss compared to me when going up even the slightest of inclines. Ive had lots of tow vehicles – Toyota T100, F250 PSD (x2), Toyota 4Runner, Yuke Denali, Range Rover, Nissan Armada, and the Tundra. All of them have been used almost entirely for pulling the boat. The Tundra has proven to be as good all around as any of the trucks, and better than most. The F250s pulled great but were awful to drive in parking lots, around town, etc. Also, reliability of the F250s was poor at best. The Tundra has had new front rotors at 55k, tires, and normal maintenance. It has more interior room than any of the others and drives great around town while being a fantastic hwy cruiser. As mentioned earlier – the Tundra is sensitive to headwinds and high speed towing. After 4 years with this truck, I would highly recommend the Tundra.Advantages are taken, not handed out…
I run a 2007 Crewmax 5.7L, 4X4 TRD. I fish all over and just drove to Table Rock for a EverStart, from Louisville, KY from Table Rock to Dardanell for pre practice for a BFL regional campionship, Dardanell to Mt. Home back to Louisville. I drive as fast as I can get away with (75 to 78 mph) the average milage as of yesterday was 13 mpg and of the 94.000 miles I put on this truck 75 to 80 % has had a bass boat behind it. It is the best truck that I have had to date and will own another.
2007 Tundra Crew Cab 4×4 5.7 TRD with Tow package gears. BassCat Sabre FTD with single axle trailer. 700 miles home from Mt. Home Arkansas, 65mph – 14mpg ~ almost on the button.Local towing I might get as low as 12 in stop and go.No boat, 55mph driving like an old man, ive seen over 20… I dont drive the 5.7 like an old man very often, rarely see that 20. Ive never heard of 9-10 in a (5.7) Tundra. Thats one heavy Triton or he has one heavy foot!
PumaDave, with the little engine, does it hunt around for the right gear?
