Topic: Turn signal problem

I have had my Cougar FTD for a couple of weeks now and have started to do some upgrades. I just changed out the light bar and the running lights on my trailer to LEDs. The new lights all work fine but now the tail light on the helm side( which I did not change) does not have turn signal or brake light. I switched the tail lights and that is not the problem. I would appreciate any help anyone could give me on where should I start at trying to diagnose this issue? Thanks Last edited by NCStatefan on June 28th, 2011, 12:27 am, edited 1 time in total.

You probably pulled a wire splice apart. The wire to the right brake/turn signal is yellow, I think. You are just going to have to find where the wire is open.

Start from the truck connector and work your way back to the light, sounds like you may have cut some wires and didnt notice it.

It could be the ground wire disconnected also.

I checked all the grounds as well as all the connections and nothing is loose. I cant find any cuts or nicks in the wire either. I guess i need to test everything with a meter. It could be the truck I guess?

Try cross connecting the plug to energize the other lights and verify that the plug is getting juice to trailer.

I took one of the old running lights as a tester and went through the five pin at the truck and it is not getting juice for the right signal. The same test on my wifes suv confirms that it is my truck and not the five pin adapter. At least I know where to concentrate my efforts now. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Some trucks have a separate fuse for the trailer brake/turn lights. A friend and I chased that rabbit on his Ford truck the other day.

I chased this before on a S10 Blazer and it was the fuse under the hood.
