Home › Forums › Bass Cat Boats › Two Questions 1) how to raise jackplate and 2) installation of led clearance lights
I am going to raise my jp up just a bit. I need to get a bubble and see just how low it is, but think it is a tad low. How is this accomplished. I have heard people on this board say go up until you get torque then bring it back down. This torque, I have an idea of what it is but please explain it to me. At what RPM and trim level should I recieve this torque. I think I have a good idea, just dont want to screw anything up. I think you may have told me once dbasket, but cant remember what you instructed me to do on the jp. Also, my girl just bought me led lights for the trailer for my b-day (the tail and clearance lights), I put the tail lights in no problem, but the clearance lights look like they will have some minor work to install. Again, looks simple, just dont want to do any unecessary drilling or screw anything up. BCB, do you guys offer a led light bar or a orange/yellow led for the front of the trailer? I think someone posted some lights they purchased elsewhere. Any help you guys can give me would be appreciate. Thank you. -Lee
You will have to add the screw holes for the LED Clearance lights, and there is no rear light bar in LED we like. The torque is the deal, and you will need to get it hummin and just figure out the right height. If you have torque drop it, if you dont have a tidbit, lower it. It is a simple process. BCB
Torque = very stiff steering and especially to the left. On moving the jackplate…loosen all 4 bolts on the outsides of plate (3/4 inch wrench/socket) and then turn the center nut under the motor. I think it is clockwise to raise and counter to lower but you can see the plate moving after a couple of cranks. I would measure the difference between the outter and inner plates to know how far and where you are currently on movement of the plate. Lee, Why raise the plate ? What rpms are you turning? I dont think youre getting ahead of the learning curve here, but you should be aware of driving charachteristics that may change. Lets go for a ride before you tinker too much with engine set-up, etc….. D.
I typically run 4,000 rpms, so I dont know why I am even jacking with it to be honest with you. At wot, I am hitting close to if not 5,800 rpms. I am a novice in every sense of the word, I need to get dbasket in there and let me see what he thinks. I was telling Judd, I am getting some steering torque, but I am feeling it when I attempt to turn right (which I dont think can be correct, so I may be mispeaking). Running a 26 Tempest.
Im back in town, so we will go run the boat soon, i promise ! But sounds like the boat is running good to me, we will see, just dont change anything yet ! D.
I bought all my LED lights from Bass Pro Shops. I did have to drill a few holes for the marker lights and the light bar, but nothing drastic or difficult. Ired, if you have good water pressure (15PSI or better at WOT) and can turn the 26 Tempist to 5800 I would bet you are close to where you need to be. I have been up, down, and all inbetween and am now about back to where the darn boat was when I got it LOL. I did pick up a tad on top end with the JP raised 1/4 inch BUT I lost good mid range performance. The boat kept wanting to fall off pad unless I was running near WOT. Back down I went, problem solved. You normally get your steering torque turning left since the prop is twising to the right. If you do decide to move your JP mark where you are now before you start to play with it so you can go back there if you dont like what you find! Like Bass said 3/4″ on the sides and 11/8″ on the center nut (prop wrench). Make sure both sides go up and down together, sometimes one side will stick!
